1. I'm reminded of the old Dan Quayle joke....
Mr. Quayle, what about Row vs Wade?

Answer: Well both are certainly sound ways to cross the Potomac......

3. god, I don't know if I can watch the debate tonight
Watching, or listening to, this woman makes my head hurt, not in some figurative sense, but in a very real pain-causing way. It also fills me with rage, sadness, contempt, and profound confusion.

4. What is worse, saying you do not know, or hemming and hawing?
What is interestingly typical of many in our nation is that many people simply cannot admit, I do not know. Also, I have seen many people not be forthright. When I was younger, I used to hide the fact that I knew something was wrong, and then something goes wrong that I might have prevented, but I had not spoke out. I was brought up in a world where the adults would yell at others and their children for knowing too much, thinking too much, or being a know it all.

Seeing Sarah Palin incapable of admitting that I do not know was quite interesting. It reminded me of my considerations about American Anti-intellectualism. We have such a severe culture. It is made worse by smart College Educated people harshly condemning others who make grammatical and spelling errors, you know who you are, thus allowing them to dismiss what their fellow Americans think, write, or speak.

It seems Ms. Palin obviously has not studied up on much in this world of ours. Her world view is dominated by local issues and concerns, her religion, and family. I am not saying those concerns are wrong, just limited. We then see two men, Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden, who have been concerned about many more issues, from the national and global economy, the constitution, the Federal Budget, foreign policy, domestic policy, and local issues and concerns, their religions, and their families.

When Sen. Kerry was running for President he made a statement about being able to have a "global" outlook, and the right wing, fascist, lying, propaganda machine got all hateful and upset about it, I knew what he meant. Having a global outlook means having a circumspection about things, having a big picture about events and causes.

The Republicans, generally, are anti-intellectuals, and some Democrats are intellectual snobs. Both extremes do not do us well. But it is obvious that Sarah Palin is no intellectual. It is also obvious that our Candidates for President and Vice President have what it takes to understand issues, and to battle for us.

7. Here! Here!
I have been having many of the same thoughts myself and alas am also guilty of snobbery. I don't like it when it crops up in my thinking and I don't like seeing it in others. Snobbery and arrogance have not served us well on either side of that intellectual/anti-intellectual divide to solve our problems or move forward as a country because it is like placing north pole to north pole - it is repellent.

13. Thanks for your reply. I have thought that there needs to be a way to help heal our nation.
I like that Sen. Obama wishes to heal the divide in our nation. I hope that we can end the Culture War. Sure there will be stalwarts on both sides who will fight for the rest of their lives, but the majority of Americans simply wish to live their lives.

I think Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden will serve to help diffuse the divide.

Peace!

5. Sounds like she's using English words....too bad she can't string them together to form a thought
A "vast variety" of newspapers is her answer to what she reads? Couldn't even come up with the name of a SINGLE one? And at what part of the interview did Couric mention or even imply that Alaska was a foreign nation - which, by the way, all tend to have newspapers too Mrs. Governor.

8. A related question--about the use of an ear piece...
How is it done exactly? Are key words and phrases given to the speaker to alert him or her to a particular pre-memorized spiel? The speaker then would still need to recite from memory (or even make up) the rest of the answer. What signs of this should we be looking for? I guess if she starts and stops a lot it would be pretty obvious, but what other signs are there to watch for? Will she be allowed to use note cards? Note cards could be numbered and she could be told which one to pull out and read.

10. The Joe Lieberman "Lifeline"
Since Joe has a stellar record of whispering the right answer into McCain's ear whenever the candidate leaves the reservation, he would likely get the nod as that funny answer man in the earphone. There could be a slight technical problem however with syncing his voice to her responses, since Joe's vocal delivery is lethargic to the point of rendering a listener comatose. If Palin starts nodding off during the debate we'll certainly know what's up.

15. It's very hard to listen and not look like you're doing it.
Some telltale signs would be that her eyes will look down and to the side as she listens. awkward pauses, etc. Think about what you do when you are trying to listen to something with no visual cue such as a TV screen or person right in front of you. If someone started to talk to you while trying to listen, you'd shush them with your hand and your eyes go to the place with the least amount of stimuli (many times, the ground) so that your brain can focus in on the auditory portion. That's what I'd look for.

11. They should run this 24/7
If we really want people to know how uninformed she is on issues, civics, and history, then someone needs to run this thing non-stop. The very idea that a governor of a state -- who should have some knowledge of both civics and history to do the job -- can't, or won't answer these questions makes me incredibly angry. It's almost as if she's telling people that they don't need to know these things to succeed in politics. This plays right into the "drink a beer with the candidate" philosophy that the Repubs have managed to get considered as a legitimate qualification for high office. The Republicans have cut funding for education, ridiculed intelligence, and made critical literacy an impossibility for much of the American public. If this was their plan -- to make people too apathetic or ignorant to ever criticize their government so they can maintain power -- then they may have succeeded, and it might be too late to counter it. At the very least, showing people these clips should get them aware of her massive ignorance in regards to anything outside her bubble.

Of course, this could all be a bluff, so Biden can call her on it and she can show him up. It's a possibility.

My wife mentioned that Palin should know at least Brown v. Board of Education, to which I replied, "Are you kidding? That was desegregation! Why would she care about that?" I am sick of showing courtesy to these people. She's either an idiot, or she's manipulating people. Either way, she's a danger to the country.

14. I would have said the vote that got Bush in
but I guess she couldn't use that either.

Fact is, she IS a busy mom with a career and it is definately not easy to keep up on politics - I know I haven't in the past (paying attention NOW, though). With that said, she just doesn't have the background for this job. If I went into a job interview and bullsh!&ed all the answers, the interviewer should know that I just have no clue. The sad thing is that the American sheelple love her and they don't care what she doesn't know, they defend her and attack Biden on his FDR blunder (like she can hold a candle to Biden).

16. She's uninformed, uninterested in larger issues, can't think on her feet, and
can't form a complete sentence. I wonder if she's a walking anxiety attack from being in so far over her head and that makes it impossible for her to remember or make up anything even beyond her own low level of knowledge. Like Bush and McCain she's all ambition with not much ability.
