They aren't paying attention to the man who thinks "bomb bomb bomb Iran is funny, calls his spouse F**king C*nt in public, thinks if rape inevitable should just lay back and enjoy, doesn't understand how SS works, Difference between Shiite, Sunni and al qaeda, says things he knows are false like Obama rather lose a war just to win an election, Backs Bush's corruption etc. etc. The press have been tricked by the taste of McCain barbecue and just refuse to believe they could be that wrong about somebody or that McCain could be that phony.

11. They've been doing it for decades!

I've stood in awe of a party who uses the incompetence excuse for terrible behavior they've been caught at, since REAGAN took office. Pretty much par for the course here.

I believe it has to do with the Authoritarian personality. They compartmentalize much of their dogma, so it makes little difference to them if many of their ideas are in direct contradiction with their other ideas and/or reality.

There is an awesome book online called "The Authoritarians" by Bob Altemeyer that is an excellent read. I bought a copy myself, as I wanted to be able to pass it on to others who may not be connected. But it is FREE online. Plus I wanted to support Bob Altemeyer's great work.

It only has to make sense in the context that the authoritarian has in mind at any given moment. Then back in the box to pull out another idea that directly contradicts the aforementioned. Say for instance the sentiment that we are there to 'free' the Iraqi people, but that all 'rag heads' must die and let God sort them out. I have actually heard these sentiments made within a minute of each other!

I have actually probably looked like an idiot at my speechlessness, mouth agape, when I encounter these types and their ideals. It actually takes me a few seconds to process that people can think like that, much less try to extricate myself from such a pointless conversation without pissing them off. Though I must say it is quite fun to MAKE them pull out those ideas at the same time and point out how little they make sense. The look on their faces alone is priceless, but they can get ornery.
