Digg it: http://digg.com/arts_culture/CNN_v_MLK_a_video_critique

To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the assassination of MLK, CNN released a documentary this year called Eyewitness to Murder, which is also the flagship episode of Soledad O'Brien's "Black in America" series.

At the beginning of the episode, Soledad tells us that CNN will try to tell us the "full story" of the MLK assassination.

Not even close.

I picked four of the most egregious moments from the "documentary" to show how biased the presentation is; how CNN severely cherry-picked evidence and excluded damning testimony from some of the very people that they interviewed. Trial footage I used in this clip is from William Pepper's personal archive of the 1999 trial and has not been seen until now.

Eyewitness to Murder is bad journalism to say the least, and probably worse.

For more on William Pepper's work, see this blog entry;

And this letter from Pepper about the CNN documentary;

1. Wm. Pepper is wonderful . . . and brilliant . . .
I read his review of the CNN "documentary" . . . that's all I need.

A jury more than 10 years ago/? found for government conspiracy in this case ---

with the an FBI team waiting in the wings to have a go at MLK, Jr., if necessary!

Pepper's words to the 9/11 audience should be inspiration for us all . . .

"It is you who are the torch-bearers with respect to that truth. And you have to continue to bear that torch and try to get it into the mainstream, and not be discouraged when you don’t…."

"I ask you not to mourn the passing of democracy and of liberty in this country…don’t mourn the passing of democracy – Organize. Organize to restore it wherever it is possible to do so. Steel your spines. Inspire your children. Then when the moment is right, rise again as though from the ashes, and rebuild this great land. Thank you." ---- William Pepper

From the blog ...

Famous Quotes by William Pepper ...(a hero of mine)

“Is it thinkable that the American Government would kill its own citizens?

“That is the question which becomes most difficult for average mainstream people to accept.” --William Pepper

"It is only the citizen which can raise freedom and liberty in this land." -- William Pepper

2. kIr What! CNN lie, mon dieu!
Of course they lie. They lied about the exit polls, they lied about the war, they lie about anything
that will get their favor with the right wing junta.

Great critique and great stuff w/Pepper.

:hi:

5. A Soledad O'Brien/CNN "crockumentary"
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 06:17 PM by EVDebs
This product of corporatocracy somehow goes from Channel 4 in the SF Bay area, and Sun Microsystem's Infogal, to CNN 'star' journalist.

The show probably doesn't even mention the military spying on MLK nor how he was assassinated under their own eyes. The trial in Memphis with the verdict that a conspiracy DID occur, should be the main point of any real documentary. Anything else is a crock.

BTW, the military has consistently been inside CNN's newsroom. See

CNN and PsyOps
http://www.counterpunch.org/cnnpsyops.html

With William Pepper's investigation into the Army's ASA being behind surveilling MLK, they also appear to be the prime suspects. Gee whiz, do you think CNN and PsyOps would be 'at it again' when it comes to putting up BS in order to keep the true story from coming out ?
