I haven't watched him enough to know. He moves around a lot when he's answering a question and---yes---doesn't make eye contact with the questioner. He really stinks at campaigning.

5. AAAWKWARD!!! What an evasive arrogant condescending asshole response
the questioner was respectful but firm, asking a very relevant question. From my recollection, he had his facts correct. J.McShame has taken up the Bush strategy of blatantly lying to the public while eviscerating government services. He's sold what little of his soul he had left to the koolaid drinking corporatists.

6. Why does he get applause from the crowd?
The man had documentation regarding his voting record, McCain shrugged him off and claimed ignorance via the usual "I proud of my service" line. The crowd thinks it's great?! That scares me.

40. My observation
is that, in crowds, people like to put down opposition. People side with the perceived people or person in charge. It's lame and cowardly, but I've seen it often.

It doesn't matter that the guy is a veteran. They only clap and cheer for vets when they agree with the party (Republican) line.

11. PWNED
He's so ridiculously transparent and I'm talking about more than his nearly transparent, pasty skin. The guy says you're on record as having voted against an increase in VA benefits for 4 years in a row and his response wasn't no, I didn't but I got endorsed by veterans groups so whatever. McSame just caught a smack down on the pure facts of his record and the best he could respond with was how many dog and pony show endorsements he's gotten.

I can't wait till this mealy mouthed, double talking, flip flopping hypocrite has to stand on the stage with Obama and try with all his might to keep the next president from running rings around him.

57. Who keeps saying Town Halls are his turf?
Does he really think he can get away with just repeating the same lies in front of an audience and TV cameras like that?
The vet confronted him right there and then, with the facts, and instead of defending his position, McCain sidestepped it.

That's not a leader your can believe in (see John McCain's Kenner speech)

These town halls usually result in 'caught with your pants down' moments like this.
Of course, they're not as bad as his speeches or his Hardball interviews.

The vast majority either get sick of it or cannot gain rank due to promotions being closed, so they are forced out after being a sgt for 16 years. I think probably less than 10% make a career out of it.

to earn the benefit, if I understand it correctly. It benefits the military machine, not the soldier. (1) soldiers will have to stay in longer to collect the benefit; (2) the longer soldiers are enlisted, the longer they are in combat, the longer they are in combat...you get the picture.

Unless I have totally misunderstood the amendment to the GI bill.

Webb GI Bill Passes Senate, McCain Skips Vote
stumble digg reddit del.ico.us news trust AP | ANDREW TAYLOR | May 22, 2008 at 01:33 PM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/22/gi-bill-passes...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...and McCain's past record shows a consistent pattern of non-support to veterans:

McCAIN HAS NOT DELIVERED ON HIS PROMISES TO VETERANS

Union members respect Sen. John McCains service to our country. When will he start respecting ours? Although McCain talks about his support for veterans, he repeatedly votes against increased funding for veterans health careand more. We call on John McCain to join us in supporting our veterans and working to turn around America.

McCAIN REPEATEDLY VOTED AGAINST VETERANS HEALTH BENEFITS

McCain Voted Against Increased Funding for Veterans Health Care. Although McCain told voters at a campaign rally that improving veterans health care was his top domestic priority, he voted against increasing funding for veterans health care in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.(Greenville News, 12/12/2007; S.Amdt. 2745 to S.C.R. 95, Vote 40, 3/10/04; Senate S.C.R. 18, Vote 55, 3/16/05; S.Amdt. 3007 to S.C.R. 83, Vote 41, 3/14/06; H.R. 1591, Vote 126, 3/29/07)

McCAIN OPPOSED AND ASSURED FUNDING STREAM FOR VETERANS HEALTH CARE.

McCain opposed providing an assured funding stream for veterans health care, taking into account annual changes in veterans population and inflation.(S.Amdt. 3141 to S.C.R. 83, Vote 63, 3/16/06)

McCAIN VOTED AGAINST ADDING MORE THAN $400 MILLION FOR VETERANS'CARE.

McCain was one of 13 Republicans to vote against providing an additional $430 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.(S.Amdt. 3642 to H.R. 4939, Vote 98, 4/26/06)
McCAIN VOTED AGAINST ESTABLISHING A $1 BILLION TRUST FUND FOR MILITARY HEALTH FACILITIES.
McCain voted against establishing a $1 billion trust fund to improve military health facilities by refusing to repeal tax cuts for those making more than $1 million a year.(S.Amdt. 2735 to S.Amdt. 2707 to H.R. 4297, Vote 7, 2/2/06)

McCAIN OPPOSED $500 MILLION FOR COUNSELING SERVICES FOR VETERANS WITH MENTAL DISORDERS.

McCain voted against an amendment to appropriate $500 million annually from 2006-2010 for counseling, mental health and rehabilitation services for veterans diagnosed with mental illness, post traumatic stress disorder or substance abuse.(S. 2020, S.Amdt. 2634, Vote 343, 11/17/05)

McCAIN VOTED IN SUPPORT OF DISABLED VETERANS ONLY 25 PERCENT OF THE TIME FROM 2004-2005.

While McCain claims he has been a leading advocate for veterans with disabilities, statistics show he supported the Disabled American Veterans interests only 25 percent of the time in 2004-2005. In 2006, that figure slipped to 20 percent of the time.(Project Vote Smart)

McCAIN VOTED AGAINST PROVIDING AUTOMATIC COST-OF-LIVING ADJUSTMENTS TO VETERANS.

McCain voted against providing automatic annual cost-of living adjustments for certain veterans benefits.(S. 869, Vote 259, 11/20/91)

INCLUDING BETTER ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE FOR GUARD AND RESERVISTS

McCain Opposed Increasing Spending on TRICARE and Giving Greater Access to National Guard and Reservists. Although his campaign website devotes a large section to veterans issues, including expanding benefits for reservists and members of the National Guard, McCain voted against increasing spending on the TRICARE program by $20.3 billion over 10 years to give members of the National Guard and Reserves and their families greater access to the health care program. The increase would be offset by a reduction in tax cuts for the wealthy.(www.johnmccain.com/In forming/ Issues/9cb5d2aa-f237-464e-9cdf -a5ad32771b9f.htm; S.Amdt. 324 to S.C.R. 23, Vote 81, 3/25/03)

McCAIN ALSO VOTED TO OUTSOURCE JOBS AT MILITARY FACILITIES

McCain Supported Outsourcing VA Jobs. McCain opposed an amendment that would have prevented the Department of Veterans Affairs from outsourcing jobs, many held by blue-collar veterans, without first giving the workers a chance to compete.(S.Amdt. 2673 to H.R. 2642, Vote 315, 9/6/07)

He Also Supported Outsourcing at WALTER REED. McCain opposed an amendment to prevent the outsourcing of 350 federal employee jobs at Walter Reed Army Medical Centeroutsourcing that contributed to the scandalous treatment of veterans at Walter Reed that McCain called a disgrace.(S.Amdt. 4895 to H.R. 5631, Vote 234, 9/6/06; Speech to VFW in Kansas City, Mo., 4/4/08)

AND HE REPEATEDLY VOTED AGAINST FUNDING FOR THE VETERANS AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

2003: McCain Voted Against $122.7 Billion for Department of Veterans Affairs. McCain voted against an appropriations bill that included $122.7 billion in fiscal 2004 for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development and other related agencies.(H.R. 2861, Vote 449, 11/12/03)

2001: McCAIN VOTED AGAINST $51 BILLION IN VETERANS FUNDING.

McCain was one of five senators to vote against the bill and seven to vote against the conference report that provided $51.1 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as funding for the federal housing, environmental and emergency management agencies and NASA.(H.R. 2620, Vote 334, 11/8/01; Vote 269, 8/2/01)

2000: McCAIN VOTED AGAINST $47 BILLION FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS.

McCain was one of eight senators to vote against a bill that provided $47 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs.(H.R. 4635, Vote 272, 10/12/00)

1999: McCAIN VOTED AGAINST $44.3 BILLION FOR VETERANS PROGRAMS.

McCain was one of five senators to vote against a bill providing $44.3 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs, plus funding for other federal agencies.(H.R. 2684, Vote 328, 10/15/99)

I've seen plenty of clips of John ("Potty-Mouth") McCain swearing at reporters and in some sort of Senate subcommittee hearings.

The veteran who questioned McCain did a decent job but should have cited specific legislation -or- specific voting-based ratings from various groups. That would be a surefire way of derailing the "straighttalk express".

Whatever credibility you ever had because you were a POW has been erased, eliminated, totally wiped out by your sleazy lying and your failure to back others in the military who RIGHT NOW are fighting and dying because of YOUR LIES AND YOUR INSANE LOVE OF POWER.

Get your stinking Alzheimers ass back on the Straight-Up-Your-Ass Express and shut the fuck up!!

And to the veteran who stood up to the Senile Senator from Arizona, YOU ARE A MAN OF GREAT COURAGE!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I could not have said it better! I love how he turns his back on the questions and starts mumbling and staggering around, spouting bullshit that is just insane. McCain is a complete fucking douchebag who has no business claiming to support vets. Anyone who swallows this fecal matter known as the "Straight Talk Express" hasn't learned a damn thing the last 8 years.

He sold his soul for this office and that alone should disqualify him.

48. Wow. WOw. WOW.
That was the biggest load of bullshit i have ever heard in my entire life.

This is why Obama must win in November. McCain does NOT respect our troops. He does NOT understand the people. He does NOT understand the economy. He does NOT have values.

Please. Everyone. If someone supports McCain have them watch this video.

50. I swear, I'm just waiting for the day when McCain's temper
shows itself explosively on the campaign trail. It'll happenjust watch. At some point, after the conventions are over and the real slugging match begins, the daily pressure on McCain is going to increase dramatically, and sooner or later he's going to have a meltdown, and it ain't gonna be pretty. I can't wait.

51. He got a D vote from Veterans of America in 2006 and is rated
by the DAV to have voted for veterans only 20% so far in 2008. Please go to the DAV website and Veterans of America website to verify this. This makes me sick--because he spoke about favorable and highest ratings by DAV and other groups. The DAV needs to be made aware of this lying pathetic old man. Hey John, how do the lies help veterans?

59. The question wasn't even about educational benefits
McShithead completely evaded the question about HEALTH CARE benefits and then puffed out his chest by claiming he had the total support of various veterans groups. I hope Obama takes advantage of this coward's record.

60. This issue, as well as McCain
turning his back on POW investigations in the 80's, will lose McCain plenty of votes.

63. Why should somebody have to make military service a career to receive the benefits thereof?
Although some people may choose military service as a career, there are others whom may only wish to serve in the military for a limited amount of time. Those that do not make a choice to make military service their career should still be compensated for their service including being able to pursue higher education through the GI Bill if they wish to pursue it after a reasonable amount of time, especially if it was promised to them as a benefit of their service. The only reason IMHO that we should really be concerned about people staying in the military is if we really need more people in the military to defend our country from a REAL threat that can only be handled by the military. Methinks that McCain and the rest of the warmongers in the GOP are opposing expanding the GI Bill because they need more bodies for their 100+ more years of Iraq, as well as the rest of the wars they plan to wage (if given the opportunity god forbid). However, despite their rhetoric, our country is NOT in a "state of war" nor threatened in anything remotely resembling the manner that we actually were during WW2. We were "at peace" here at home right before 9/11 and we have been "at peace" here at home since 9/11 (our "wars of choice" in Afghanistan and Iraq notwithstanding).
