1. Has Pat Buchanan ever been right about anything?
I can't believe they still drag this tool out from under his rock to comment on anything political.

7. Der Buchananfuhrer was against the invasion of Iraq.
But then again, he was also against "The War of Northern Aggression" and stopping Hitler.

Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 01:52 PM by pattmarty
......shrewd and honest (by honest I mean he will tell it the way it is) in his political assessments (usually). I agree with ALMOST NONE of his actual social views and most of his political views also, but the man is a political genius and usually the only reason I still watch that fuckhead McLaughlin. When he starts his rants on immigration I "tune him out", cause he's nuts on that and most other crap. HE IS NOT a neoconservative though, as another replier to your post said he was against the Iraq war. He is what I describe as a "true believer" in I really think he believes his shit not unlike most Liberals. If nothing else, at least give him that. Oh, and as a qualifier, I am just to the right of Karl Marx, there are VERY FEW out there that are further left than I. One last thing I will add (VIA THE EDIT) is I didn't see the piece, so I can't comment on that, although Vanden Heuvel is excellent.

32. Re; Buchanan
Buchanan is a "paleocon" - an "old school" conservative. Currently, the Republicans house both "brands" of conservatives - "neocons" and "paleocons". Two important issues separate the "paleocons" and the "neocons" - isolationism and national debt. These issues are the basis of a huge potential rift in the Republican party. The "neocons" are interventionists and, of course, national debt doesn't matter. The "paleocons", on the other hand are isolationists and view national debt as absolutely evil - many of them have been the impetus behind the initiative for a balanced budget amendment (a moronic idea). It is the "paleocons" who have been retiring to "spend more time with their families". The truth is they can't stomach what the "neocons" have done to the country and their party.

The opportunity is there to fracture the Republicans for at least a generation on these two issues. Somehow the Dems need to force McCain to show his hand. Is he a traditional Republican, a "paleocon" (turns his back on Reagan & Bush) or is he is the new breed - a "neocon" (OK with the current disastrous policies)? No matter what McCain claims -the Republicans are split and a Dem victory in November is clinched.

21. He's right about congress.
AIPAC has congress by the short hairs. And Rahm Emanuel is their #1 guy. Emanuel got 3 anti-Iraq war democrats defeated by pro-war blue dogs in the last primary. And now he is like #4 in the democratic leadership - because of all the campaign funding by AIPAC.
With democrats like Emanuel, Bush doesn't need republicans.

Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 12:54 PM by defendandprotect
And she is brilliant in taking people to a higher perspective ---

something that Andrea didn't want to happen ---

I'd like to hear her say that "Bush has bankrupted our Treasury" ---

and that the GOP is busy turning America into a "third world nation" ---

I'd also like to hear some real conversation about taking males out of power --

Not all males want war -- but as long as they are in power we will not have PEACE.

Meanwhile, we "negotiated" our way thru the Cold War --- that worked.

We "negotiated" our way thru other crises.

Further, the US/Israel have been locked together for quite some time now in warmongering ---

Nixon armed their right-wing religioous fanatics and the situation isn't much different

from our creating the Taliban and using it "bait Russia into Afghanistan."

We need to resurrect peace-loving liberal Israel ---

15. Pat Buchanan is right
if the blockading Iran measure passes through Congress it is because of the Democratic party. This is WW III: no time for partisan bullshit from Katrina or DU. Anyone who signs on to the bill (or doesn't oppose the signatories of the bill) is responsible for the war. When the bill passes it will be the Democratic Party's war in Iran. Game over.

Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 09:40 PM by truedelphi
Were marginalized - they were clearly showing that there are Democrats who do not want to support Israel or AIPAC.

And of course Buchanan has never had any tolerance for our country being run by Israeli (or AIPAC) interests.

Haven't looked at my watch lately - but the fact that this duo was allowed to speak almost unopposed (The only threat to the audience hearing what they were saying was construction noise in the backgroud) indicates that Bush's popularity remains in the toilet.

27. No vote yet on H. Con. Res. 362 and S. Res. 580
but the House could vote shortly after Congress returns. The link below has links to the bills and other info as well, 220 cosponsors in the House and 32 cosponsors in the Senate, both bills were introduced by Democrats :(

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=308x699

Both bills are 'sense of Congress' resolutions...

About 'Sense of Congress' Resolutions

"They do not make law and are not enforceable...

"Sense of" resolutions are typically used as:

...On foreign affairs: a way to express the opinion of the people of the United States to the government...

Although "sense of" resolutions have no force in law, foreign governments pay close attention to them as evidence of shifts in U.S. foreign policy priorities..."

48. Imagine they will be "voted through" at Midnight when Congress does Summer Recess...
whether FISA is a "done deal" or not. Business as Usual...and most Americans and many Dem Activists don't even know how powerful these "Resolutions" are... and we will be bogged down with the other "crap" they are pulling on us as they clear out the Bush/Cheney Agenda to hamstring Obama if he is elected. :-( Sad to say...it's their pattern...whether it's Dems or Repugs in Control. It's always about "protecting and promoting the President's Policies...even if he is a Dictator with a Second in Command who runs him.

The voice of protest, of warning, of appeal is never more needed than when the clamor of fife and drum, echoed by the press and too often by the pulpit, is bidding all men fall in and keep step and obey in silence the tyrannous word of command. Then, more than ever, it is the duty of the good citizen not to be silent.
- Charles Eliot Norton

Iran busts CIA terror network
davidswanson ...

TEHRAN - The Intelligence Ministry on Saturday released details of the detection and dismantling of a terrorist network affiliated to the United States.

In a coordinated operation on May 7, Iranian intelligence agents arrested the terrorist network’s members, who were identified in Fars, Khuzestan, Gilan, West Azerbaijan, and Tehran provinces, the Intelligence Ministry announcement said.

The group’s plans were devised in the U.S., according to the announcement, which added that they had planned to carry out a number of acts such as bombing scientific, educational, and religious centers, shooting people, and making public places in various cities insecure.

One of the terrorists was killed in the operation, but the rest are in detention, the Intelligence Ministry said, adding that the group’s main objective was to create fear among the people.
