6. "People are trying to dumb down America"
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 10:29 AM by wryter2000
Ya think? I wonder who those people would be.

Closely followed by "I've never used spell check in my whole life because I don't know how to use it."

Is Al Franken writing their material?

On edit: I just sent this to Chris Lavoie. I hope we hear some on Mama's show tomorrow.

7. What a bunch of idiots
You would think they might talk about increasing educational funding to FIGHT IGNORANCE in America, but no, that is a bad idea because it would take away money from what's really important - killing brown people.

8. THe current spellings of a lot of english words were not standardized
until the nineteenth century. English spelling has been controversial for a long time, and I don't begrudge people who believe that the standard should be changed. It would be stranj for a lot of peeple, inclooding me, to see the speling of many common wurdz chanj, but it woodn't be the first time it hapend. I think the language is the way it is more out of habit than necessity, much like the arrangement of typewriter lettering.

10. She asked if dictionaries are still sold?
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 11:14 AM by in search of sanity
She also said soldier has no "d." Bimbo.
The guy on our right claimed people have been speaking English for thousands of years. He's an idiot and completely ignorant of history. Standardized English spelling is only about 150 years old. Further English language spelling differs in England, Canada and the US.
All of them forget that most other languages have standard phonetic spellings.

13. English has been around for thousands of years?
Yeah, seriously. If Jesus could speak English so eloquently, what's wrong with kids today?

14. Could anyone imagine these cretins fighting their way through
Shakespeare?

We don't even truly speak "English" here, we speak/write a bastardized version what would truly be English in the truest sense of the language.

Virtually anyone can go out and buy a $1 pocket dictionary, and if they feel overly free w/their money, can adda $1 Thesaurus. I ma willing to bey that none of the 3 have ever done a Crossword, even a simple on in the local paper, much less the Sunday NYT's.

Doocey, (the one on the left), and Killimeade, (the one on the right), were hired because they have only the slightest knowledge of the language and it's usage. All they come up with is a pittance of sound bites that keep the masses in line with tidbits of fools gold that can be used for the dumbed down masses to spew forth as pearls of wisdom.

What is most telling, is that they actually laugh about their own ignorance. If there would have been something that wold have shown the true aspect of their ignorance,...the stagehands wold have passed out bananas at the end of the segment.

15. Well, they are keeping with their intended audience
Come on. What moron believes anything they say? On that note, most people who would be sympathetic to their rantings probably don't have critical thinking skills and don't know how to spell anyway because they didn't graduate from high school.

We wouldn't even understand medieval English that's say eight hundred years old. That's absurd. "Thousands of years." Utter nonsense. Language evolves too fast for that. In a few hundred years, we won't understand the "English" that is spoken then.
