1. He's GOT to do something about those yellow teeth!
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 07:53 AM by Th1onein
Hasn't he ever heard of teeth whiteners? And that cheesy SMILE with that weird chuckle of his! UGH! Totally inappropriate affect.

2. And his yellow hair!
He needs to use powder or blueing. I think he should ask his mom about it.

3. Yeah, he smiled at all the wrong times and was twitching...
I thought he was going to lose it right there.

And he tried to use cadence like Obama does, but it just came off as cheesy and fake. He's trying to be "hip" now... Can't wait for him to atart rapping... :eyes:

An absolutely horrid orator. Obama will "obliterate" him.

19. I assumed
that the smiles were stage direction he was reading on a teleprompter, since they usually came a few beats after whatever he'd just said.

Ugh, rapping!? I guess we can count on David Gregory to back him up... :/

10. Yeah, this is a politician that does not know who he is...
Perhaps he does on the issues (wrong on most counts), but he is so stylistically non-existent that he is trying to pick up on some of what made Bush "folksy" along with cadence and some other attempts at oration a la Obama. The result is what we saw last night - a joke.

Keep it up McCain! And remember, you can always appeal to the young whippersnappers with some good ol' gangsta rap! (I am begging to see that happen).

This guy makes Bob Dole look almost exciting. Almost.

9. He seems robotic. It's kind of sad. There's no way he is going to hold up.
I don't like anyone being laughed at though, especially his age, so it is kind of painful to watch. I kind of like to study the audience. Who are the people who fall for him and what are they thinking? When we see Obama and McCain in debates it will all be even more apparent. I almost thought he was reading from a TelePrompter at times.

and he seemed to be getting cues (ear piece or hand signals or just remembering...?) as to when he was supposed to change to the poorly-acted-sarcastic-laughlike-little-grunt-thing-while-smiling from the cranky old man pose (which is not an act). He would forget and start to go into his, "That's not change..." shit, but would catch himself like halfway through the first word and pop up a big cheesy smile, which was totally out of place when talking about things one is against... (I think he intended a sardonic grin, but his vast palette of 3 facial expressions did not allow him to pull it off.)

Obama wins on the issues and on the tone discussion. He also wins huge on the charisma and oration front, which I do not think should be as huge of a deal as it is, but that's our situation. I also think that the US needs a charismatic person that can bring people together and really lead, so this charisma is much welcome right now.

Based on what I saw last night, Obama will mop up the floor with McSame.

11. Remember those pathetic ads Sally Struthers did listing job certificate options?
each one said with a different pitch/tone of her voice - high, then low, then serious, then happy!
You can receive in your very own job certificate in:

dish washing!
shoelace tying!
window washing!
envelope opening!
dog grooming!
page turning!
lawn mowing!
and yes! even bus riding!

That's how simplistic McCain sounded, listing (evidently) problems he would solve.

12. Where's His Hair?
Something about the combo of the lighting, the Frankenstein's foundation background, and the wispy paleness creates a non-existent hairline. Just bad set-up all round.

14. Worst mash-up ever and worst comments ever.
Seriously, I have no good comment for the Republican party in the US. But there is something seriously wrong with this mash up and the comments posted here.

The mash up makes no sense, sentences hacked apart and glued together with no coherent meaning. I have no idea what McCain talks about most of the time, and I have no idea what the person who made the mash up wants to tell me. It's a waste of my time.

And the comments? You don't have anything more serious to say about McCain other than his teeth, hair and facial expressions? If that's all the political commentary you got, you don't deserve to win. I know why the mainstream media has no interest in talking about actual political issues and positions (because this would expose the great divide between Washington and the nation, or wall street and main street as Obama put it). But I would expect more from DU'ers. Obama shouldn't win because he is more charismatic and a better speaker than McCain, but because his positions are more in line with the majority of the American people, who are far left of Washington and the mainstream media.

15. Give us a break. We're a little punch drunk from dealing with Hillary's immortality
You'll see plenty of in-depth critiques/analyses of McCain in the coming weeks.

And if you check out Free Republic's blog, you'll see that these neoconservative Republicans ridiculed this McCain speech even more harshly than this thread. Not that I go to that blog, but someone posted excerpts from it here on DU.

17. Fallacy: Someone mentions something, therefore that's "All they have"
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 10:00 AM by ExPatLeftist
Logical fallacies don't help us either, and that was one you just posted.

Lighten up. I am sure that all of us criticize McCain vehemently on the issues as well, but PR is a part of any campaign, like it or not, and that McCain speech last night was a good example of how NOT to handle PR or a speech. Give me a break with writing us all off based on a couple of comments - you do not know me and what I stand for, so please spare the high and mighty condescension.

It is possible to make a few comments like this AND discuss the issues in depth, and a couple of offhand comments about the the stage setting and so forth in between much more substantive discussions does not make us the superficial morons that you attempt to paint us as.

22. Hey! You know what? Go crawl back under your rock.
I am SICK of Republicans telling us Democrats how to act, and I'm SICK of Democrats buying it, and going along to their, sometimes literal, deaths. We've endured almost eight long years of watching our Bill of Rights be buried under signing statements, our worth as human beings being denigrated, our wages falling, our jobs going overseas, and WE'RE SICK OF IT!

I will attack the Republicans AND their candidate any goddamned way I want to, and in EVERY way I possibly can. I'm taking my country back! And neither you, nor any other asshole is going to tell me to stem my attacks against those bastards, or HOW to attack them.

After all his team is loaded with lobbyists collecting green from other countries and American Corporations that have nothing but our worst interests at heart.

18. Don't count your victory just yet.
Remember how lame Bush was in both 2000 and 2004? Voters seem to like incompentence. Compentence and intelligence "turns them off" and they consider it "condesending" and "elitist". Sure, Obama will mop the floor with this guy just like Gore and Kerry mopped the floor with W. And the repuke voters will pick the idiot because it makes them somehow fell better about themselves.

just saying...

No more days off. This is going to get really ugly.
