my best friend and his mom do - they watch it religiously - they voted for shrub in 2000 - but I got to them after the illegal invasion and they voted for Kerry in 04 and my best friend is voting for Barack.... HOWEVER, his mom has went back to the dark side... you know what that means - she just can't "trust" Obama....

on edit - my point is - most of these people are proud of their country, love 'macho' baloney stuff like the WWE, and want a straight shooter and don't want their country ran into the ground. I thought that after 8 years of Shrub doing this, his mom would've seen the light, esp. after voting for Kerry, but apparently, it was just a vote against Shrub, not against the GOP who she apparently associates with... I gotta figure a way to make her see she's voting for more of the mcSAME, it'll be hard b/c she's one of those "barack is a muslim I think" crowd.

I've been around wrestling, as a performer or as a fan, for around twenty years now and it's safe to say that wrestling fans cover the same range of intelligence as the fans of any other form of entertainment. Do you judge movie buffs purely by the dipshits who think the Saw movies weren't gory enough? The average age group of Raw's viewers is 15-24, it makes perfect sense for all three candidates to try appealing to fans.

Of what they said, Hillary fell victim to the same problem journalists always do when they cover wrestling: The urge to squeeze as many wrestling based metaphors in as possible. Obama kept it to one and picked one that actually fits since he doesn't have to twist it much. McCain used the catchphrases of two workers, one of whom retired last month at the grand old age of 59 (Ric Flair); the other has been semi-retired for over a decade and now hosts American Gladiators and boinks his daughter's friends (Hulk Hogan). McCain used catchphrases from the generation before last of performers; Hillary used generic phrases that she obviously didn't understand and used them awkwardly. The only one who seemed to understand what he was saying and have watched wrestling in the last five years was Obama.

You mean JCP. The NWA was a coalition of promoters who operated as a governing body, shared talent and all used the NWA name. They're still around, albeit in a very, very low-key capacity.

Sting is now with TNA (who are an NWA member). As for the Hosemen, WWE did something really cool as a surprise for Flair. The day after his final match, he went on Raw and cut a very moving retirement speech. Triple H (Flair's best friend in the WWE) comes out and says he was talking to some guys in the back and ever since, his hand has been cramping like this (holds up Horsemen hand signal).

Suddenly, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Tully Blanchard and JJ Dillon hit the ring. The original Horsemen (or as close as they could get) hug Flair, pass around the beers. Flair's in tears, so are half the fans (including me). Then the whole locker room empties to come and congratulate Ric on his retirement. It was one hell of a moment.

The Rock, a 2nd generation wrestler and movie star grew up in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. The Lehigh Valley has always been a hot bed of high school and pro wrestling. I grew up watching Bruno Samartino kick butt (Bruno is from western Pennsylvania BTW). See the connection to tomorrow's primary now?

His granddad was the late "High Chief" Peter Maivia, his dad was Rocky Johnson (both now in the Hall of Fame).

Everything you say about Pennsylvania is true, many of teh all-time greats in both amateur and pro have come out of that area.

The 2000 Repub convention was Vince's McMahon's idea. Vince is a die-hard neo-con and wanted to send one of his headliners to speak. His first choice was probably Steve Austin but since Austin's foul-mouthed and could tell Vince to stick it, he had to settle for the Rock (like any big business, wrestling is a politics game, Austin was powerful enough to refuse but Rock, at that point in his career and being an easy-going guy anyway, didn't).
