68. I liked it when
Hillary got asked about the last time she went to church or shot a gun. I think Obama did this on purpose and Hillary fell for it Hook, Line, And Sink "Her". More lies from Hillary.

99. That part was especially annoying.
She gives a bunch of speeches about how religious she is and how much she loves to shoot, but a question about when she last actually went to church or shot a gun is somehow off limits? What could be more germane? What is wrong with this woman? She is embarrassing me with her obvious desperation and palpable insincerity.

We already have a Republican in the White House.

7. Just my opinion, but...
...I think that Hillary might just be the over all worst candidate the dems have ever put forth. Her campaign tactics are deplorable. I wasn't old enough to vote for Mondale or Dukakis, and I am sure that they were pretty weak, but everything that I have seen from Hillary turns my stomach.

85. Mike Dukakis ran circles around Hillary in class...
the guy was encouraging and passionate, the only thing he did wrong was be a big nosed minority who got in a tank and play too nice when they ran convict willie horton ads saying he let out a murderer who killed again. I think he got like 46% of the vote - had he hit back hard he might have won, as this country was not in good shape in 88. I loved when he rolled up his sleeves in the last 6 weeks, he pulled close, but the damage had been done with the negative campaign ads from Bush that ran daily.

Kerry's campaign reminded me of Dukakis', similar style, very kind, smart, and he had his own silly photo when he got in the NASA hazmat type uniform and crawled through some contraption they were visiting at Kennedy Space Center. People cracked up about that, but the Bush campaign decided to go with the Kerry doing the windsailing thing.

I'm sure we're going to see UTTERLY horrible and negative ads about Obama. I won't watch TV. They're going to try and make it like we don't love America if we vote for that man, because HE doesn't love America --- blah blah blah...

I hope Obama has some incredible comebacks ready and just destroys McCain in the debates. Kerry won the debates, handedly, and still B*sh got close to 50% of the vote (I believe thousands of votes attributed to him were for Kerry).

95. Blame the media
Sensible, reasonable people would all agree that Kerry won the debates. It was the news agencies that were saying that Bush won and unfortunately too many people put a lot of stock in the opinions of the media (because, I guess, they should know better...).

and yet there was question as to it being close. Kerry was extremely presidential, especially in the 1st debate most probably saw, and W was out there! Amazing what people will vote for, isn't it.

108. you're thinking, I like that!
good point. the way he presented himself in his 30 minute or whatever special the night before the election, that cost him so much cash, could have been done a hundred million times on his website and he could have reached voters. I think between George Sr and Mike Dukakis, on youtube, Mike would've been inspiring vids from young people at a much higher rate.

I think this is where Obama is going to blow away McSame then, thanks to your point, and I know I'll be making a few vids myself from my www.youtube.com/password channel.

take care!

Well, now we have Jon Stewart and the internet and a few other places to go --
but TV is still serving up mostly BS --- especially on Sundays.

Sundays, as I recall it, were always the big day to pass on BS ---

It wasn't until MLK, Jr., JFK, Malcolm X, Pope John XXIII, James Baldwin that some truth could
be heard coming from those idiot boxes --- !!!

105. Well. . . in comparison to what other journalists are doing . . .
he seems to have been let off the leash ---

I've often thought they did it to cut into Jon Stewart's show which plays here at the same time --

I usually watch a few minutes of Olbermann --- usually the beginning ---

don't waste time with it after that . . .

Russert and Matthews, IMO, sold themselves very early one.

What amazes me is that people have watched the TV "news" at all over the past decades!!

drinking and Obama's attempts to insert foot into his mouth. ( his Pennsylvanians' are bitter comment. ) We should try to look at our candidates as non Democrats look at them ,not we partisans. If we want to win, that is. All we need do is tell them to talk the issues, end the squabbling and grow up.

50. I'm really sick of this crap
What the hell has Edwards actually done, except co-sponsor the IWR, and earn half a million dollars consulting for a hedge fund company that was a big player in the whole sub-prime mess. Edwards is a complete fraud, and I am getting sick of the Edwards supporters with their holier-than-thou attitude. There is a reason that Edwards didn't get any traction , either in 2004 or 2008. He has no substance. I don't buy his sudden populist message. He never worked for the poor while he was in the Senate.

Obama is behaving like a grown up. It is Hillary that is behaving like a spoiled brat, who is intent of breaking her toys is she isn't allowed to play with them. Don't lump them together. He has been quite restrained. While she continues to attack him personally, he has been trying to talk about the issues.

101. Kucinich was my and is guy as well
I think that Edwards had the luxury of not being under attack and so remained positive. Kerry exemplified remaining above the fray of the politics of personal destruction, but what I perceived as strength was perceived as weakness by the populace, i.e. "why didn't he respond or fight back?". Obama has found a more counter-punching balance while still partially succeeding in staying above the fray. I feel HRC is quite competent, but from my perspective, it seems that the mud flinging started with her camp.

17. Repost of Edwards' Senate Record notes

Much has been said about Edwards’ supposedly conservative term in the Senate. Like much “common wisdom”, this is largely unfounded.

When remembering that he came as a neophyte from a rather red state, it’s quite surprising to see just how populist he was on many key social issues. (Well, it’s not surprising to many of us, but to those of you who’ve been poisoned with the endless snideness about the “new” Edwards and the “old” Edwards, it should be an eye-opener.)

He only sponsored two bills, but he co-sponsored a whopping 203 in his six-year term. This is a partial list of them (yes, I omitted the Patriot Act and IWR; much has already been said about them) and bears a quick skimming. They’re in chronological order, so details can be found fairly easily. The two bills he sponsored were for research into the “fragile x” chromosome associated with mental retardation, and the “Spyware Control and Privacy Act”, an important early bulwark against attempts to compromise our computer privacy. This last one is a true civil-rights issue, taking on corporations and attempting to secure the rights of individuals, and it’s visionary stuff.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d106:SN03180:@@ ...

Russ Feingold said he was a “terrific asset” in getting campaign finance reform through. He was the person who deposed Lewinsky and Jordan in the impeachment trial; quite an important task to entrust to a newcomer in literally his first year in office. His opposition to Ashcroft in the confirmation hearings was vigorous and mesmerizing, even if it didn’t work. This is also the guy who tirelessly fought to keep the sunset provisions from being stripped out of the Patriot Act. His votes on labor and trade are solidly leftist, although he did vote for the China Trade Bill. Then again, since this was something Bill Clinton was solidly for, he was voting with his party. (Funny how Hillary supporters take him to task for this vote…) He also (along with Dodd and Biden) voted against the free trade bills with Singapore and Chile, unlike Senator Clinton, who voted for them.

Here’s a guy who constantly brought up the issue of “predatory lending” even though he hailed from a state with a huge banking and financial services industry. If you listen to or read his stump speeches from late ’02 and early ’03, you’ll wonder what the hell his detractors are talking about when they say that his populism is a new tack; his platform was economic and worker-oriented from the beginning, telling of how the Bush Administration was systematically shifting the burden of taxation from wealth to wages.

So here’s that partial list of the bills he co-sponsored. This is not a list of his votes, just those bills he actively got behind and worked to get passed. This is hardly the stuff of a closet conservative or an opportunist, as he’s been tarred, nor is it the record of someone who was just phoning it in. I would request, in interest of fairness, that the deriders among you at least skim through this VERY long list; it’s all pure fact.

When taking all this in context, it’s interesting to reflect on Kerry’s sneering that he probably couldn’t win re-election had he decided to run. Kerry may have been right on this point, but if so, it’s because of Edwards’ populism and social decency.

Details can be found here; each phrase separated by a comma is a particular bill, and in most cases attempt to use the bill’s title to lessen confusion and give the sense of the legislation.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/?&Db=d107&querybd ... (FLD004+@4((@1(Sen+Edwards++John))+01573)):

Is this the record of a corporate appeaser? Is this the record of someone just loafing about and collecting a paycheck?

Funny what you find when you read a little, isn’t it?

The Bush Cartel is Shivering In Its Boots About John Edwards: This is An Actual North Carolina GOP Alert Sent to a BuzzFlash Reader

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Below is a copy of an actual GOP alert sent out by the North Carolina Republican Party.

It illustrates how frightened the GOP is of Edwards spoiling the Neo-Confederacy "Southern Strategy" that the Grand Hypocrisy Party (GHP) depends upon to win presidential elections.

Sincerely,

Buzz

* * *

Dear XXXX,

Senator John Edwards' (D-NC) latest effort to package himself as a "mainstream North Carolinian" is entirely contradicted by a four-year voting record that consistently puts ultra-liberal special interests ahead of the people he represents.

CNN's Candy Crowley: "I want to ask you, lastly, about the political spectrum and where you are on it. You are often described as having a liberal voting record. The liberal groups tend to give you high ratings. The conservative groups give you low ratings. Are you a liberal Democrat?

John Edwards: "I'm a mainstream North Carolinian. I think my views and my values represent the values of most people in this country." (CNN's Inside Politics, January 2, 2003)

Bill Cobey, Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party had the following response: "Senator Edwards, your voting record does not lie. 'Mainstream North Carolinians' don't vote like Georgetown Liberals."

Edwards made similar assertions in 1998 when he promised the people of North Carolina that he would be a moderate voice in the U.S. Senate. Edwards' record, however, reveals the liberal truth:

Edwards' Voting Record Matches Those Of Senators Ted Kennedy And Hillary Clinton

From 1999-2002, Edwards Voted With Senator Ted Kennedy 90% Of The Time. (CQ Vote Comparison, CQ Online Website, www.oncongresscq.com, 106th and 107th Congresses)

From 2001-2002, Edwards Voted With Senator Hillary Clinton 89% Of The Time. (CQ Vote Comparison, CQ Online Website, www.oncongresscq.com, 107th Congress)

Edwards' Liberal Record On Business/Job Growth

Edwards Received A 0% Rating From The Small Business Survival Committee For His Voting Record In 2001. (Small Business Survival Committee Website, www.sbsc.org, accessed Dec.1, 2002)

Edwards Received A 17% Rating From The National Federation Of Independent Business For His Voting Record In 2001. (National Federation Of Independent Business, www.nfib.com, accessed Dec. 1, 2002)

Edwards' Liberal Record On Education

Edwards Voted Against The Creation Of A Demonstration Public School Choice Voucher Program For Disadvantaged Children. (Amendment to S. 1, Roll Call #179: Rejected 41-58: R 38-11; D 3-46; I 0-1, June 12, 2001)

In 2000, Edwards Voted Against The Creation Of Tax-Free Education Savings Accounts For Children To Be Used In The Payment Of Public Or Private School Tuition. (S. 1134, Roll Call #33: Passed 61-37: R 52-2; D 9-35, March 2, 2000)

Edwards' Liberal Record On Abortion

In June Of 2000, Edwards Voted Against Tabling An Amendment That Would Have Repealed The Ban On Privately Funded Abortions At Overseas Military Facilities. (Amendment to S. 2549, Roll Call #134: Passed 50-49: R 48-6; D 2-43, June 20, 2000)

In October Of 1999, Edwards Voted Against Passage Of A Bill To Ban Partial-Birth Abortions. (S. 1692, Roll Call #340: Passed 63-34: R 48-3; D 14-31; I 1-0, October 21, 1999)

Edwards' Liberal Record On Health Care And Social Issues

Edwards Called For A Federal Prescription-Drug Benefit And Lamented Over The Lack Of Universal Health Insurance For Children. "Moving to health care, Edwards - his words being recorded by a National Public Radio reporter sitting near his feet - again called for a federal prescription-drug benefit and decried the lack of universal insurance coverage for children. 'In America,' he intoned, 'that's wrong, and we need to do something about it.'" (Eric Dyer, "Testing The Waters?" News & Record, June 23, 2002)

24. I agree; the repeated "fact" that he wasn't a populist to start with is simply wrong

If one looks at his record, one sees populism as a very clear through-line.

Good post and solid sources.

Thank you.

You honestly think Barack Obama will, "do anything to win, even destroy the party"?

if so, the M$M has deluded you...

He has NOT demeaned the race to the Presidency, though Hillary Clinton HAS.

56. To be perfectly honest
I find the lack of specifics , generalities; a turn off. So glad we missed the discussion on faith. We'd really been turned off. We really sort of started skipping out on the debate , back about Super Tuesday. We still hope the eventual candidate will get their act together. Lets get back on track. Why did Jon Stewart have sport on both candidates.

71. it sure is tough when every time you try to talk about the issues
someone takes what you say out of context and tries to spin it and use it to say you said something else. there. now instead of talking a bout issues, we are talking about what someone 'said' a week ago and how mad everyone should be about it.

25. K&R! I was there last night and it was an exceptionally good show.
Jon had the audience in stitches with his incisive and very true comments, cutting through the MSM fog and telling it like it is... He claimed to be tired, after hosting his recent special, but he was full of energy and his timing was as good as it ever is as soon as the cameras rolled. It was a lot of fun to be there. :applause:

29. It was a very good show, despite a guest we weren't particularly interested in.
It was a filmmaker that we hadn't heard of, and we wondered if he was a last-minute fill-in guest, since he's an old friend of Jon's and we didn't find out who was scheduled until we were there. Because he and Jon go way back, he was pretty amusing, but we were hoping for somebody in politics, even if it was a conservative, since it's Jon's show and he always gets the last word!

It's too bad that you have to switch between Keith and Jon, since they're two of the few shows currently on that are worth watching. You can miss Jon's guest, which should help, but you'll appreciate the rest of the show. We stopped for dinner after the show, so didn't get back until after midnight, and watched the 1am rerun, but taped it, as well. :D

But I didn't think that his being tired made any difference in his performance at all. He was as good as ever, totally nailed it, once the cameras started rolling. The whole experience was a lot of fun and Jon Stewart is a very nice guy, gave his notes to a woman who asked for them and a script to a sick teen-ager who came with his Mom. He was great to his audience.:D
