On Friday, United Steelworkers (USW) members at Goodyear and supporters picketed the annual NASCAR awards ceremony in New York. Goodyear is the exclusive supplier of NASCAR tires. Saturday, Goodyear strikers hand-billed customers at Goodyear local stores in Fort Wayne, Birmingham, Ala., and many other stores around the country. Here’s a collage of photos of the hand billing at the USW Local 135 Goodyear store in Buffalo, N.Y., on Dec. 2. USW Local 2 in Akron, Ohio, met to discuss a Tuesday rally for retirees. The USW-Goodyear website reports the Canadian Labour Congress has endorsed a Canadian national boycott of Goodyear tires.

Steelworkers President Leo Gerard appeared on CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight” show Tuesday night talking about the Goodyear strike. USW chief negotiator Tom Conway met with Local 2 in Akron on Tuesday, where he spoke harshly of Goodyear executives and called the company plan to end health care “foolish.” The Steelworkers announced that striking Goodyear workers will get a holiday bonus of $100 from the strike fund. The bonus also will be extended to other USW members on strike over the holidays.
