Labor history Nov 24 Cigarmakers International Union, Local 144, was chartered with Samuel Gompers

November 24, 1875 - The Cigarmakers International Union, Local 144, was chartered with Samuel Gompers as president. The union held its first meetings in taverns located off the Bowery in New York City.
