Lede: Striking Shaw’s warehouse workers began a 60 mile march over the weekend to draw attention to their 12 week strike. Doug Cunningham has the story.

By Doug Cunningham

Brian Petronella is president of UFCW Local 371 and an international Vice-President with the union. He says for the 300 workers striking the Shaw’s warehouse owned by the giant Supervalu grocery chain, this strike is about financial survival and health care.

: “What triggered the strike was the inability to come to an agreement that was fair for the workers so that they could survive on a daily basis paycheck to paycheck. It was going to cost extraordinarily large amounts of money for their health care. That was one of the issues that really stuck out. I mean, the wage increase wouldn’t be able to pay for the health care. So that was a big issue.”
