An Omaha-based foster care provider that closed last week amid financial problems can't pay its employees for their last weeks of work, saying it's owed more than $1 million from the state.

Visinet employees will get 25 percent of wages owed and will have their insurance premiums paid through April, according to a letter from the agency.

But, the letter states, full payment will have to wait until Visinet is paid by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

“Visinet is owed a significant sum of money from DHHS,” the letter states, adding the provider estimates it's due more than $1 million on its now-canceled state contract.

“Visinet is now attempting to organize all of the amounts due to everyone and finalize the amounts due to us from DHHS,” the letter states.

There was no immediate comment Saturday from HHS.
