On the Road to Victory, 4th Young Trade Unionists Meeting Proves to be a hit

The Young Trade Unionists meeting was another victory for the good guy. This venue turned out to be very successful. The Young Trade Unionists invited a panel of speakers of the Unions that represent the Public Employee sector. The special guest was Dorothy Bryant from AFSME Council 67, Marietta English from the Baltimore Teachers Union Local 340, Yvonne Rice from the City Union of Baltimore Local 800, and Robert Sledgeski from the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 744.

The meeting opened with Dorothy Bryant explaining the functions of AFSME Council 67 and how she has benefited over the years from working under a collective bargaining agreement.

The next speaker Marietta English explained the importance and foundation of belonging to a union. She also delivered an impeccable story about how she was performing in a play, but one night she was unable to perform due to the fact that it was a picket in front of the building. Marietta explained

“Even though it was a cold night, she had no choice but to march with her brothers and sisters because the only way that we can progress is together.”

Those strong characteristics displayed that day are the prime example of why we have such strong leadership in the Maryland area.

The next speaker Yvonne Rice explained her story and how she climbed the ranks through her union. She also explained the tools that our young leaders need to develop to advance the labor movement. She also explained the importance of sticking together and how this tool will enable the Young Trade Unionists to remain vibrant in the labor movement.
