Telemundo station KVDA-TV 60 in San Antonio has earned “star” status as part the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programs.

The television station has been recognized for achieving three years of excellence in employee health and safety. KVDA-TV employs 21 workers in San Antonio. The stations is owned by NBC Universal Inc., a division of the General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE). To participate in the Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), KVDA implemented a comprehensive employee safety and health management system in accordance with federal standards.

“Telemundo KVDA-TV 60 is the nation’s first broadcaster of Hispanic programming to earn VPP star recognition,” says OSHA’s Region VI Administrator Dean W. McDaniel. “The station’s outstanding efforts include zero injuries and illnesses over the past three years.”

The voluntary OSHA program involves more than 2,160 work sites nationwide. To participate, member companies agree to a high degree of management commitment and employee involvement; a high-quality work site analysis, hazard prevention and control program; and comprehensive safety and health training for all employees. Companies participating in the government’s program, on average, achieve injury and illness rates 50 percent below levels recorded in their respective industries as measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics

OSHA has worked to improve workplace safety and health for the past 38 years.
