LONDON (AP) — A British labor union chief says Prime Minister Gordon Brown must agree a bailout plan to save jobs in the country's ailing auto making industry.

General secretary of the Unite union Tony Woodley told Britain's Sky News on Sunday Brown should inject cash into the industry, as his government did to shore up the British banking sector.

Business Secretary Peter Mandelson has held meetings with car makers in Britain, but has not yet offered major financial support to the industry.

But opposition Conservative Party lawmaker Michael Fallon says any support should be in the form of loans.

Fallon says that any public money should only be offered to car makers who are focused on innovation and green technology.
