SETTLEMENTS

USW, ArcelorMittal: The United Steelworkers (USW) has reached a groundbreaking agreement with ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel company, to improve health and safety standards throughout the company. The global agreement covers ArcelorMittal workers represented by unions throughout the world. In addition, the agreement establishes universal minimum standards at every site the company operates.

AFSCME, Hahnemann University Hospital: About 1,300 workers at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, represented by District 1199C of the National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees/AFSCME, ratified a four-year contract agreement that calls for a 16.8 percent increase in wages and benefits.

AFT, Pittsburgh Public Schools: Some 750 teacher support staff and 56 technical-clerical employees at Pittsburgh Public Schools, represented by the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers/AFT, reached a tentative agreement. Terms are not yet available. The last contract expired June 30, 2007.

CSEA/AFSCME, White Plains, NY: Some 500 civil servants working for White Plains, N.Y., represented by the Civil Service Employees Association (AFSCME), reached a tentative agreement on a one-year contract with a 4 percent pay raise, which members likely would get in a retroactive lump sum after the new pact expires in four weeks.

PASNAP-CNA/NNOC, Crozer-Chester Medical Center: Nurses represented by the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners (PASNAP-CNA/NNOC) ratified an agreement with the Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Specific details have not been released.
NEGOTIATIONS

IAM, Northwest/Delta: The Machinists (IAM) announced it has contacted Northwest Airlines Corp. and Delta Air Lines shareholders to voice concerns over the proposed Northwest-Delta merger. “I urge shareholders of Delta and Northwest to protect their interests and speak out to oppose this proposed merger,” said IAM President Thomas Buffenbarger. “In addition to my concern with the treatment of employees in the proposed merger, I also believe that this transaction destroys shareholder value by combining two vastly different entities with few expected synergies.”
