Local D.C. NBC-affiliate poll is blistering McKinney
Just saw the clip on NBC4 out of Washington, D.C. In their online poll they asked, "Do you think U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney should be charged with assault?" So far the results are running 88% yes to 12% no, and some of the emails they read on air were pretty blistering in their criticism of McKinney.

You can find the poll at: http://www.nbc4.com/index.htm on the right side of the page.

3. If the video does indeed show that she hit the security officer there
must be some kind of punishment. But it must be in line with what other Congresspersons would be or have been charged for similar kinds of behavior. But I must say this: McKinny should be smart enough to know that she had to be purer than Caesar's wife because she had already been a target of AIPAC and the Rethugs who brought in outside money to defeat her run term before last. Also, I hate to say this because it makes me feel bad, but minority public officials are being constantly watched and will pay dearly for just trying to do what the majority gets away with. As my brother would say about his favorite card game: "If you are not the best at the game, just play for the fuck up."

5. Bull! How dare they put a hand on her? They had no reason to touch her
they were out of line and she was right to defend herself. She wasn't some Black woman headed for the closet to go get a mop and pail to clean up a spill. She is a United States Congressional representative.

7. horseshit...
if she failed to stop after bypassing security without the proper ID showing and being asked to stop...then stopping her was their JOB...

FUCK...why don't people here see that? If she had a legitimate complaint then FILE one...but you do not HIT/SLAP/PUNCH/POKE a police office charged with YOUR DAMNED SECURITY when he/she they are doing what they are supposed to do...what ARROGANCE!

idiots...if a WHITE MALE congressional member had struck a black female police officer doing her duty he would be resigning about now under the constant pressure...

8. I doubt any white male congressman would strike a black female
officer. Republican? Yup, there's several that would do it in a heartbeat.

In fact, we don't even know if she actually struck anyone. There is no doubt that the office grabbed her. I don't blame any Black woman for wanting to defend herself against a white man wanting to grab her. I wonder what the security guard said and probably more importantly, how he said it.

about race. And yes, there are witnesses and no, she has not refutted that she struck the officer in some manner.

21. That's not fair ...
Wouldn't "touching' her be above and beyond the call of duty.

Sorry ... like touching an aching tooth with one's tongue, I felt compelled to read "yet another thread" about this.

11. if? if? if?????
great post

you don't have the slightest clue what happened

why not wait and see what actually did happen

so far the only reports of what happened are coming from the media that so successfully destroyed the candidacy of Gore and Kerry, and the same media who, more recently, plastered it all over hell and back that Cindy Sheehan unfurled a heinous banner before the SOTU

when are you people going to wise UP?

22. because NO ONE here KNOWS what happened
and yet there are witnesses. I can wait...but others here need to as well. But, I guess in your mind it is okay to come to her defense but it is NOT ok to say what she did was wrong? Hmmm....interesting double-standard...

19. Defend herself? Against what? Did the cop hit her?
And what the hell does "some black woman headed for the closet to go get a mop and pail to clean a spill" mean? Cleaning ladies don't deserve respect?

She is a Congressional representative, and as such is NOT above the law.

Until more information in the way of actual video of exactly what occurred, I think everyone should keep the real issues like the war, Iran etc. in mind.

12. Poll now at 90% yes, Repigs propose resolution commending Capitol Police
House Republicans Want To Commend Capitol Police
N.C. Rep. Says Ignoring Police Never OK

POSTED: 3:35 pm EDT April 4, 2006
UPDATED: 6:30 pm EDT April 4, 2006

WASHINGTON -- A confrontation at the U.S. Capitol has sparked some Republican members of Congress to commend U.S. Capitol Police.
The proposed resolution does not mention Georgia Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney or the argument she had last week with a Capitol Police officer who did not recognize her. McKinney allegedly struck the officer in the chest with her cell phone....

MORE at http://www.nbc4.com/news/8465370/detail.html

So these so-called "patriots" want to commend the Capitol Police for upholding the law but are outraged at the mere suggestion that Bush be censured for breaking it? Oh yeah, there's justice all right. That alone is enough to make me defend McKinney!

16. Also letters to Jack Cafferty on CNN
In most cases, when he asks for viewers' opinions, most are scathing about anything Republican: Congress, the White House... some even complain about his bias

But earlier today they were all against her, someone even bundled her with DeLay.
