FYI: Campbell Brown just married a Bush staffer ---pix--->>>

Just so we're clear where everyone stands.

?

Campbell Brown, left, co-anchor of NBC News' 'Weekend Today' and primary correspondent for 'NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams' and the weekday 'Today' and her new husband, Dan Senor, former Bush foreign policy advisor and current Republican strategist and Fox News Analyst, smile after their wedding ceremony at The Beaver Creek Chapel in Beaver Creek, Colorado, Sunday, April 2, 2006. 42. HERE IS JOSH MARSHALL ON DAN SENOR >

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/007980.php

(March 23, 2006 -- 03:16 PM EDT // link)

So we have one more Bushie giving up the (loyalism) ghost and spilling the beans: the CPA was run by a bunch of inexperienced partisan operatives, chosen for their party-linism rather than any experience with what they'd be doing in Iraq. And they -- through incompetence or their lust for a piece of the pie -- let the reconstruction of Iraq get overrun by all manner of corruption large and small.

You can read this piece in Newsweek to get Andrew Natsios' take on what happened. He was head of USAID at the time.

And in rebuttal, Newsweek got this comment from Dan Senor, the fellow who typified what the CPA became ...

I'm not familiar with the traditional USAID program that was recommended. If it was traditional and conventional, it may have made sense for the reconstruction of Switzerland. But it sounds like it was completely irrelevant to the facts and conditions on the ground that we found in Iraq. recruited some of the top career Foreign Service officers from the State Department to serve in the CPA's management roles. We would have welcomed suggestions—from Andrew or anyone else—of who would have been better experienced.

The arrogance and ignorance and obliviousness to the colossal failure he helped manage just defy able prose.

Here's how I summed up Senor's qualifications for his job as Bremer's deputy a couple years ago ...

Before attending Harvard Business School from 1999 to 2001, Senor was a staffer for then-Sen. Spencer Abraham of Michigan. After receiving his MBA, he went to the Carlyle Group, where he was a venture capitalist from 2001 to 2003. Senor left Carlyle in 2003 for a brief stint as White House Press Secretary Scott McLellan's deputy before shipping off to Iraq. Though he showed up in Iraq as a junior press handler, Senor is now Bremer's senior advisor and for most of last summer he was in charge of organizing Iraq's post-Saddam media, an effort which most have rated as little short of a disaster.

Reconstruction for Switzerland. This pretty much encapsulizes the mentality.

It apparently hasn't occurred yet to this bozo that post-war reconstruction efforts generally happen in countries which have just experienced a war. Apparently, everything in Iraq was entirely unique.

In this case, in dissing his critics, Senor confirms their darkest allegations. He still thinks Iraq was sui generis. Working with experts on post-war reconstuction was no more than pissing away time and expense on a tribe of effete paper-pushers. He's unperturbed and oblivious to the fact that the product of his cocky assuredness has descended into blood and fire.

-- Josh Marshall

The "reconstruction of Switzerland"?????? WTF???

I'm sorry, did I miss the day we covered that in History class,
or is this fella just too stupid to be walking around unsupervised?

Did he learn his history from Ann Coulter?
Did we 'reconstruct Switzerland' before or after Canada
sent all those troops to Vietnam?

I'm just letting you know who works for who. Kind of important information, IMO. I don't know why you would feel you had to "tear up somebody's wedding pics" - if that's your first reaction on reading that a prominent network news anchor just married a Bush staffer, you might want to try a little harder to grasp the significance here.

should I overlook the fact that I love her, and she loves me, because we spend our working lives in completely different spheres? in fact, working diametrically against each other? really?

Welcome to the big city, we all have friends across the aisle, it's the only way the world works. I know several couples that work for different parties, I have friends who work for people I despise, and they despise the people I work for. Even in DC, you know, politics isn't everything.

45. I've already watched Brown, she is very biased in reporting
I remember the '04 convention coverage. She and Howard Fineman kept talking about not getting any "bounce" from the debates though kerry clearly won--there was no bounce because there was nothing but coverage like hers saying there was no bounce. Neither she nor her counterparts actually looked at the speeches, the content, the delivery, etc. They just kept downplaying the whole thing to brainwash the public. Traitors all.

Exactly. She has done nothing to hold Bush and his administration accountable, so I think we should definitely find it interesting that she marries this guy who has been involved with incompetence in Iraq.

All these ordinary Americans and Iraqis are being killed and wounded while the Washington elites all go around to their cocktail parties and discuss politics like it's nothing but a big game. It really does look similar to the history of other powerful empires, crushed from above by the incompetence and corruption of the powerful people at the top.

63. I'm with you Stephanie , her job is

suppose to be a reporter, someone presenting themselves as "Fair and Balanced."

I'm delighted that you published this because when we wonder why the reporting of the election results in TV Land don't go our way in '06 and why the screen tallies just "disappear" we should know that there may be some little BRIDE/GROOM/BEDMATE that is encouraging her assistant to make those little tallies disappear from the screen.

She holds a powerful position.

Let's take a little rundown....

James Carville and the Witch...IMO, he has never been as strong since he married her, he is a turn coat and I don't trust him one little bit.

Rush Ball and his lady (they may have broken up) --- don't tell me that that little arranged pairing was not a set up. I have heard that she is really a Liberal, I don't think so. That is some Rethug chatter designed for us. Democrats are really naive that way, we have a gene that wants us to believe that people are fair and balanced.

HA! Republicans are not people and they will do anything to retain power and influence, anything!

I just heard her trying to convince Jeff Tobin/Tubin? that GW probably got what he wanted in the Padilla case.

It helps me to know that she and Rush were pretending that they were in a passionate affair. Anyone that would go within 100 feet of Rush must be willing to sell their soul to the devil for power and money. We need to KNOW and understand what these partnerships do to people.

Trust me, I know, I was married to a Republican and it is a strong influence.

Try reading the morning paper with a die hard Republican!

Try going to glitter parties and/or meeting their "darling" little kids, the influence and access is mind blowing.

Remember, Daran Kagan and Rush...and now Campbell Brown and Senor.

If anything, it demonstrates how intertwined right-wing politics is with the upper echelon types in the media. Maybe Brown's choice of significant other helped her land the anchor job. It wouldn't surprise me--especially with the NBC brass.

politics. What he defended when the horror of what they have done to the people of Iraq, the torture, the tens of thousands of deaths, was condemned, is what we disagree with. Maybe you don't, but I don't admire or apologize for people who profit from and seek glory for themselves by participating in what is fast beginning to look like genocide.

What is even worse is that we are getting our news from a woman who apparently can turn a blind eye to his participation the criminal acts perpetrated by this administration, or worse, perhaps supports them.

'Cute'??? Bundy was cute by some standards, that doesn't diminish the crimes he committed.

This is more than interesting news, it explains to me why we do not get the truth from the media, in part anyway. It seems the war machine hires only its own to deliver the news we are supposed to hear. Many Americans sensed something was wrong ~ now we are getting at least a small clue as to why the lies went unchallenged, and were delivered dutifully by people we were led to believe were honest reporters of facts.

I wish this for them. That their future children are never subjected to people like Senor in positions of power, as the Iraqi children were to this man. And if they are, I hope those who deliver the news, will be real reporters, not hirelings of a regime who think nothing of bombing whole cities full of civilians, men, women and children.

From the post above, Josh Marshall:

In this case, in dissing his critics, Senor confirms their darkest allegations. He still thinks Iraq was sui generis. Working with experts on post-war reconstuction was no more than pissing away time and expense on a tribe of effete paper-pushers. 66. I disagree. There's never a better time to tell the truth than when an
opportunity arises. In fact, for possibly hundreds of thousands of dead people, it's already way too late.

Too bad people thought that because of 9/11, they had to remain silent three years ago. Had people's sensibilities not taken precedence over the truth, we might have saved some lives.

I fail to see why a wedding picture should silence people ~ if you don't want to have people tell the truth about your complicity in crime when they are reminded of it by your cute wedding pictures, then don't commit the crime.

As far making something stick, their own words and actions will do that and the choir is growing bigger ever day. It's now at about two thirds of this country, and has always been approximately 80% of the population of the world.

I'm not especially moved by wedding or any other pictures of liars, cheaters and war mongers or their enablers. I am moved by the pictures I've seen of beautiful Iraqi children splattered all over the streets of their native country.

I'm not against "mean" where it can be ironic or even deserved.

But as I and others have noted:

Most casual visitors to DU don't know who these people are.

Many people have mixed political marriages.

Even some posters here.

AND the thread is full of so much middle-school type pettiness that visitors won't be bothered to read further.

The insipid and juvenile comments obscure any information someone might find useful.

The information will be just as true in a couple of weeks or months.

And then...people might actually hear you.

Instead almost all of them, men, women, children, even the musicians were bombed to death in Mr. Senor's war ~ we did see the pictures of the carnage, and read the reports of the mother who managed to escape and try to flee with her two surviving chilren ~ I don't think this NBC anchor reported that story. Thankfully real reporters did otherwise Mr. Senor would have been able to pretend it never happened.

Like all warmongers though, as far as I know, Mr. Senor never put himself in harm's way.

Imo, they all should be tried for war crimes, and any propagandists who aided and abetted them, should also stand trial. Maybe if that were to happen, future generations of people in foreign, oil-rich countries could celebrate weddings, birthdays etc without fear of being bombed before the ceremony is over.

Forgive me if I don't much care about this couple's wedding ~ I wonder about where the money came from that paid for it though.

61. Actually, rumor has it that Brown may replace Couric on The Today Show
If Couric bolts for the anchor chair at the CBS Evening News. There are other prospects, but Brown is in the running.

This could put her over the top in some minds.

20. "If we ignore terrorists in Iraq we'll hear from them on OUR soil!" -Senor
What pillow talk these two must share!

'Iraq is now a central front in the war on terror. Saddam Hussein's government was a state sponsor of terrorism. His government used weapons of mass destruction on his own people. There are terrorists in Iraq today engaging US forces because they know that if we are successful in building a free government in Iraq at peace with its own citizens, with its neighbors and serves as a model for the region and is no longer a threat to the United States, then the terrorists’ days are numbered.

If we choose to ignore terrorists in Iraq we will wind up hearing from them on our own soil. That is why success in the reconstruction of Iraq is so critical.'

27. This proves the media really IS liberal. As in "fair and open minded."
How else could one explain all the talking pie-holes who marry or date well-known republicans? I guess it simply means the media is clearly able to be fair and unbiased after all, right?

Right? Isn't that what it means? :sarcasm:

43. Look at what shes been covering
"Brown served as NBC News White House correspondent and was part of the NBC News team covering the presidential campaign of Republican candidate George W. Bush.

In addition to covering the Republican primaries, the Republican National Convention, the Presidential Debates and Election Day, she also spent more than a month reporting from Texas on the post-election Florida recount story. "

Senor and Tori what's her face were the two main camera whores the Bushies used to push the damn war the first year. Then they brought Senor back so he could spend more time on TV with the talking heads. They wanted his younger good looks for the TV audience.

Well, Campbell, he's going bald!! So there!!

58. Interesting that her politics are RW.....
Campbell Brown is Jesuit-educated (Regis U. '90)

When I was there a few years ahead of her, the Jesuits were doing some fantastic things speaking up about Reagan/Bush I and their nightmarish policies in Central America.

They certainly opened my eyes.

59. again, how do you know her politics?
you know her mediocre reporting, and who she chose to marry, but not her politics. or do you?

You should have seen the party I hosted on saturday night, a little welcome to April bbq/bocce/drinkin' fest. in the same backyard, I had a senior action planner for Greenpeace, a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood, white-shoe lawyers/lobbyists, a Dem speechwriter, a painter, a general contractor, a public health specialist who works in Africa, a couple of your random every day 'consultants', a few staffers for random people, pr flacks for a couple of trade associations (some rightist), a press secretary for a conservation group, two supreme court clerks (for republican appointees) and other random people from the large collection of random people who come to DC. And we're all under 35. I don't care about their politics, I don't want to know them for that, I want to know them because some of them are interesting to me, or have partners who are interesting to me. I ahve a good friend who works in my job for an opposing trade organization. During the day, we beat eachother around the head and shoulders, but once every two weeks, we meet for drinks and hang out. This is not a war, it can't become personal, it's business.

Yes, there are assholes on both sides, no doubt, and it's getting worse, but for the most part, the business of this town is government, and it can't work without cooperation on some level. And there is a growing movement, among the younger generation, to bring that back. The hostility comes from outside the District, not inside it. Believe me, I despise the administration with every fibre of my being, I even flip the bird at Cheney's motorcade every day when it passes me, but I don't hate the people who work for them, it's just not worth it.

but still be in love?
With all the crap that hits the airwaves and papers day to day, I would like to hold on to my thought that not
ALL things are steeped in politics. A fairy-tale? Maybe.
Some others have a very successful marriage and are polar opposites: James Carville and Mary Matilyn

and a major member of the Bush Adminstration are two different things.

Senor actively facilitated and participated in activities that are illegal and morally repugnant.

A mariage to such an individual says volumns about Ms. Brown.

85. We don't know what her views are.
We can only go by what we see in her reporting. Sure spouses can have differing views. However most spouses do NOT have opposite views. More often they agree on fundamental things like a worldview. So I think this is an interesting clue into her character. It's not definitive, of course. But it indicates to me that most likely she leans right. That's simply logical, isn't it?
