A shamless plea to help the Florida Panther

Defenders of wildlife are finally fighting for the Florida Panther. Please sign this petition and add a note at the bottom to save the Babcock Ranch from Morgan Stanley developers who want to build a CITY in the middle of Panther territory

They do not mention this in their petition but the commissioners meeting is on Tuesday and though it sounds unbelievable 5 commissioners get to decide whether this CITY is going to be built in the middle of pristine untouched, home of the Florida Panther wilderness. We have already had 17 killed on the highway so far this year, the same amount that was killed in the entire year of 2005.

If you go here and click on the blue it will take you to the petition. You can copy and paste the following if you want.

"Please stop Morgan Stanley's efforts to build a city in the middle of panther territory at the Babcock Ranch"

https://secure2.convio.net/dow/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&page=UserAction&id=357&autologin=true&s_einterest=C3C4

I cannot begin to tell you how many people have been fighting tirelessly against the big bully Morgan Stanley and all his/it's money. And so far these commissioners have passed the CITY every step of the way, (except for one). Jeb and his buddies passed it a long time ago.

Trust me, we are still fighting. Please help.

2. Oh thank you!!!! My eyes are tearing.
I have volunteered at shelters where these cats end up and I love them. They deserve to run free and have babies and hunt for food and climb trees. The more we protect them in the wild the less they will end up in shelters.

6. K & R -
Donated earlier today. Just went back and did it again in order to add my objections to the Morgan Stanley development scheme. These people suck. (I didn't say it in those words!)

I was priveleged to actually see one of these incredibly beautiful cats years and years ago - they are the most regal animal!

Florida is rapidly becoming a state of pavement and amusement parks. It's sad, because there is so much beauty there. I grew up in Brevard County before Kennedy Space Center was built, and remember swimming in the Banana River with manatees (we were on body boards, and didn't try to "pet" them). Now you're lucky to find one at all. The Indian River Lagoon used to be full of wildlife, from Great Blue Herons to dolphins - now it's full of derelict boats and trash.

My mother still lives there, because she says at 90 years old, she's too old to change. She cries for the lost habitat, wilderess, wildlife and beauty that once defined Florida. She says she's pretty much ready for a hurricane to wipe it off the map entirely.

I will help any way I can. Please be sure to post any news, petitions, and the like so DU can help you kick a little developer ass.:grouphug::loveya::grouphug::loveya:

9. K&R. Cats are cooler than Morgan Stanley.
The idea of dead panthers on a highway sickens me. They have enough office space.

14. This is a fight that must be won.
The forces of evil(Jeb and the developers)must kill the Florida Panther. They fully understand that the recovery of this keystone species will deny them billions of dollars as it would bring to a screeching halt the cancerous rape of south Florida. A viable population will need a LOT of space, it might be too late regardless. It still must be attempted. What I fear is that Jeb has corrupted Florida's wildlife officials like his brother has done on the federal level. I heard some Florida wildlife guy on NPR last week saying that the only thing to be done is to catch up the animals and transfer them to the Ozarks! That would be the end of the subspecies and the end of any chance to preserve south Florida wilderness.

Recommended.

Isn't this right smack dab in the middle of Seminole country? Don't they have a say in this? How can we protest Morgan Stanley effectively? Go panthers....

17. Actually it is on the east side of Charlotte and Lee counties. I've read
a few Florida Constitutions and one from way back 1868 or so said each county must have a representative from the Seminole Indian community but I've seen other constitutions and I can't tell if they have nixed that part or what?

And protesting Morgan Stanley, yes but I am not sure how. I am going to get up at the commissioner meeting on Tuesday and read a list of all the fraud cases that are being brought up against them now. Other than that I am at a loss. Someone wrote an editorial in the paper and said to GOOGLE "Bush" and "Morgan Stanley". They have been connected for years and MS was the biggest contributor to G.Bush's campaign and a huge contributor to a republican governor campaign fund.
