Cheney's neighbors speak out
I don't know how reliable the NY Daily News is, but I can't imagine millionaire neighbors putting up with much from someone who has "special" security needs:

Love thy neighbor?
Not if it's Cheney

<excerpt>
But Dick and Lynne Cheney, who settled into St. Michaels last fall, are being blamed by the locals for stopping traffic, keeping neighbors barricaded in their homes while the motorcade passes by, and disrupting sleepers' REM cycles with low-flying Chinook helicopters.

"I hear that Mrs. Cheney is delightful," a disgruntled neighbor, who lives within sight of Ballintober, the Cheneys' $2.7 million estate, told me yesterday. "But I've had great big helicopters fly over my house at 3 o'clock in the morning and at 1 in the morning. I can tell you I'm not happy. They're very noisy. The dogs start barking, and we can't get back to sleep."

The neighbor continued: "When they travel, the Secret Service clears Church Neck Road and prevents people from leaving their property. When they drive into town, people are actually told to stay inside their houses until the Cheneys go by. And I hear that two weeks ago, they told the DNR Police to keep their boats away from Cheney's house because it was ruining his view."

1. "I hear that Mrs. Cheney is delightful."
I hear that she is tawdry, NOT a good person.

3. Delightful? Hardly
The Cheneys are about the coldest couple in the country. Dick condescendingly said he had better things to do than fight in Vietnam. Lynn makes Laura seem warm. The Cheney's ooze illustrates flicks of ice water flowing from their veins. Even Mary, the lesbian daughter was no where to be found at election. The Cheney's make the Webster's look mainstream.

When they finally get to the bottom of the rabbit hole, do you think it will be given back to the citizens - you know all the ill gotten gains?

2. The arrogance of that man.
Can you imagine how inconsiderate the whole ritual around Cheney's driving into town would be if this report is true? The imperial presidency, indeed. This sounds like the imperial vice presidency.

7. It's simply rudeness
If they came in by vehicle after hours there would be much less of an issue. The insistence on using the helo late at night is more than inconsiderate, it's a "WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK?" slap in the face--stay in the damn residence that the Navy pays a light bill of 99K a year for in DC if you are staying out late, fa crissake!!!

Well, national security may be at play now, but when he is out of office, it won't be. He'll have to deal with the PUBLIC, or at least his fellow neighbors and taxpayers, then. And no doubt the community won't want to piss off a huge tax base--they'll slap an ordinance against night flying against him, if he has access to corporate helos to putt around. Then it will be "Who cares what YOU think, Dick?"

How hard is it to land at a friken municipal airport and ground transport the remainder of the way?

No class....

5. I used to live next door to a big Southern Baptist church. That was...
bad enough.

But now I realize that it wasn't the worst living arrangements--living next to the Cheneys or Bushes would be worse.

6. Aristocrats. The privileged enjoy special treatment. Don't you know?
This is the new Gilded Age. The royalty has privileges. You don't.

It's the new Edwardian Era. Robber Barons can do what they want.

This is exactly why we had a revolution in 1776. We don't want a Royal State.

10. I can't feel sorry for RICH PEOPLE.
No matter how hard I try, I just can't find sympathy for Cheney's super rich neighbors.

14. I have a suggestion for St. Michael's residents
Eminent Domain. Surely they need to put that new park somewhere.

15. Well, the Eastern Shore is one of the pretty red areas of MD
so I'll bet they're getting a nice wake-up call (pun slightly intended) that these guys couldn't care less about 'normal' people. They did a story on this when Cheney first bought the house on the local news.
