of everything. They lived and died by "purity" codes that were a sort of caste system. This is why it was shocking that Jesus associated with gentiles, tax collectors, harlots, lepers, and so forth. None of those people were considered clean by the pharisees.

Today's "unclean" people are gays, unmarried women who have sex, and so forth.. or so the fundies would have us believe.
