What's with all this rhetoric on the Republican side that the constitution
...is broken when they start talking about stuff like the FISA laws? And they aren't talking about adding amendments to the constitution, either - they're talking about rewriting it. WTF? Yeah, these people who are breaking the laws right and left and want to take away ALL our civil rights should be given the power to rewrite our constitution.

This, beyond all the things I've seen the Republicans do, scares me spitless.

:scared:

Whatever happened to that clause "protect and defend the constitution" they swore an oath to when they took office? They just toss the whole thing aside when it becomes inconvenient because they want to break the law?

This ridiculous rhetoric is nothing more than an excuse to break the law and remove our civil rights and turn this country into what Bush dreams of at night - a dictatorship, with him as dictator.

4. They hate everything about the New Deal...
Social Security is part of that. The Great Society of LBJ was its child. They want to destroy all vestiges and return to the pre-Teddy Roosevelt style of government that basically fields an army to protect their economic adventures around the world.

7. Nah, they just pretend to like that one to get their voting base.
If they could disarm the citizenry as well as disempower them, they'd do it in a hot minute.

6. I'm reading "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis right now...
and dog-earing the pages that have direct parallels to what is indeed happening here. What you are describing is essentially Rule Number 15 in the Windrip proclamation.

I'm on page 68 and I have five dog-eared pages so far. It is astounding that Lewis wrote this in 1935. Just goes to show you that there has been longtime recognition of what the threats to our system are, where they would come from. These people in power now could be coming right out of the pages of this book--there's even a Karl Rove type (Lewis calls him the "satanical secretary") behind the fascist man running for president.

8. Want to? as 'in the future'? They are already rewriting the
Constitution. They are hard at it over at the Federalist Society. Their efforts have one umbrella purpose - to create an unimaginable divide between those that have and those that have less or a lot less - meaning those that slave and have to be controlled and those in the dwindling middle who are losing ground fast.

The benefactors of everything they do are the band of barons and all the various foundations, corporations, and entities they operate.

They do it by taking over the government and by allowing the military to rule.

This is a concerted effort and it is already underway.
