DUers, We can do it!! Just ONE MORE ROUND!!!
I was going through channels on the radio while running errands and had to stop when I heard the passionate voice of an African American preacher. I'm glad I did, he was telling a story about a boxing match between a champ named Sullivan (I believe that's the name, not too familiar with boxing) and his puny-sized challenger who went through the longest match at that time. From the first round, his little challenger was pummeled, Sullivan tossed him about like a rag doll in round after round. The little guy would take a blow to the head, go to his corner where his coach would ask him if he was ready to throw in the towel, he would tell him 'No, I've got to get back in there and go one more round'. One heavyweight sized punch to the face puffed his eye up so swollen that when he went back to his corner his coach begged him to stop, let him throw in the towel before he was hurt worse. 'No', he said, 'If I can just get through one more round'. They cut above his eye to help him to see and he went right back in for one more round. By this time in the preacher's story, the congregation was yelling 'just one more round' with him as he said it. I was becoming emotional as I listened, the boxing match reminded me of us and how we have gone through so many rounds with this administration. So many phone calls to Washington, so many days when we felt that 'this is the one, this is the issue that will bring them down'. Of course it didn't but we got back up the next day, found out what our next assignment was and got to work on it. I almost think that our boxing match is worse than Little Guy's; by the night of his match he was on the road to recovery, the never-ending rounds were a thing of the past. Our rounds are emotional; most days full of frustration and fear for our troops and our country, some days a hero will do something that represents us and takes us to the heights. The emotional ups and downs of the past few years have been draining but we've found staying focused on making it through the next round is helping. Everyone has their own survival technique that helps them focus; I've kept my eye on the prize of November '06. I'm just here to say, DU we can do it, we can go just ONE MORE ROUND!! I don't know how many just one more rounds we'll have to go through but we're doing it together. NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Oh yeah, Little Guy won.

Perseverance futhers, btw. Republicans used to know this, Calvin Coolidge's quote:

""Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, 'press on' has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race.""

BTW, anyone who saw the Ron Lyle vs. George Foreman fight would say that matched the Sullivan fight you mention...got web video of that anyone on DU ? I think it lasted 12 rounds and both could barely stand up at the end. Foreman got by...just barely.

These qualities are admirable but ignore what Bush is trying to present today. The same thing, basically, Iraq is 'winnable', despite the obvious. Is beating yourself to a pulp and allowing your intended target, Iran, to score points against you 'smart' ? I think not.

DIA's Pat Lang has said it, the Iraq/Chalabi spy ring for Iran was 'good work'. Bush did Iran's bidding, not for the benefit of the American public. That is a lesson the DOD is slowing learning. They were duped by their own "new Pearl Harbor" visions for the world.

Before getting into the ring, you must first be prepared. Any boxer will tell you that. And in war, the best victory you will ever win will be the war you didn't have to fight in the first place (Sun Tzu wll tell you that).
