Beat back at BIG INSURANCE--and win. Stop S. 1955! (x-post, sort of)
This bill is BIG INSURANCE'S wet dream.

S. 1955, with HEAVY support from the big insurance companies, is out of committee.

It allows states to override federal legislation forcing insurance companies to pay for essential medical equipment.

The Republican majority is in the pockets of BIG INS, but a strong grassroots effort will stop this bill. It is universally opposed by the Dems--except for it's co-sponsor, SENATOR BILL NELSON (need I say more?).

Since I'm insulin-dependent diabetic, I'll use my own example. I'm alive today because I have an insulin pump and am able to test my blod glucose at home. Both require very, very expensive medical equipment to maintain. S. 1955 allows insurers to WAIVE COVERAGE of these itwms and many others needed to maintain the health of chronic illness sufferers--guaranteed, someone you know.

LOADS of information in this thread--thank you, caligirl!--so please visit this one and kick it up.

Please call, fax, and/or e-mail your senators and ask them to oppose S. 1955.

It's literally a KILLER.

Thanks.

1. Why do the Republicans hate the American people?
Why are they trying to kill everyone? Who will pay taxes when half of America is dead?

Honestly, we couldn't do much worse with Osama bin Laden in charge!

3. I called and asked them why they are targeting my child for death, it
makes them uncomfortable to think of themselves as baby killers.

9. Not trying to kill everyone, just those too sick to be profitable
any longer. We are to be indentured servants for the ruling class, as God intended.

2. Just in time to test out my new signature line. If the enzi bill passes
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 09:03 AM by caligirl
millions of diabetics and those who will be diagnosed will no longer have safe medical care, the Enzi bill puts diabetics back to pre 1921 standards in my opinion. 1921 is when insulin was discovered, before that every diabetic (type 1 who are children and young adults) died. We believe our sons insulin, pump and testing supplies will run in excess of $500 a month. It will derail is college education and force him into the working poor, force our family out of the middle class and into the working poor by bankrupting us. This is not something to ignore in favor of more lite hearted stories. Thank you to those who have taken some action and who are also not directly affected.

I kid you not, we are freaked out about this in our home.

4. did any of you know that Halle Berry is a diabetic? Type 1, that
two American idol contestants are type 1 diabetics, that a leading basketball player for Gonzaga is a type 1 diabetic. They all will feel this as well. Except for someone as wealthy as Halle.

5. my CT Congress'l rep, Nancy Johnson, is way in the pockets of Big Ins
and Big Pharma. To help defeat her, go to www.murphyforcongress to make a donation. :kick:
Chris Murphy is a CT state senator and Chair of the Public Health Committee and is tearing Johnson up in CT but she's a 23-year incumbent and has seniority on the Ways and Means Committee. Here is part of her record:

• Johnson accepted $211,317 in pharma and health products companies' contributions during the 2002 election cycle
• Johnson was the number one recipient of money from insurance companies in the 2002 election cycle, accepting $313,847 in contributions, and ranked first or second in insurance money in the 1998, 2000 and 2004 cycles, too
• Since the 1990 election cycle, Johnson has accepted $1,358,149 from insurance companies, and $495,407 from HMOs and Health Services companies
• Since the 2000 election cycle, Johnson has accepted $506,630 from pharmaceutical and health products companies

7. Politics=strange bedfellows. Big pharma opposes this bill, but their
power pasles in comparison to the big insurance companies, most of whom are owned by or have become big finance.

I (shudder) am rooting for big pharma here. Sigh. :scared:
