http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/14155275.htm?source=yahoodist&content=ksc_news

So now if you get pulled over in Kansas, you're going to get fingerprinted on the spot. Just great. What the fuck is going on in Kansas? Isn't this the state that's home the infamous "God Hates Fags" church? The home of Sen. Brownback? The state that wants to teach creationism as science?

Fuck it. Maybe we should just kick Kansas out of the United States, and let the fundies have it all to themselves. They can even rename it "People's Republic of Kansas" or "Fundieland" for all I care. This way all the fundies can move there, and leave the rest of us the fuck alone. After all, they sure as hell don't share the values that the United States was founded on.

And it's even perfectly situated for the fundies, since God can send down his vaccuum cleaner (in the form of tornados) to take some of them home to Him.

4. Tell you what - you move here to Florida, we'll send our fundies to Kansas
There's quite a few fundies here in Florida that I'd love to see pack up and move to Fundieland. Let them have their own damned country to fuck up.

You can even move into one of their ocean front condos if you like ;)

2. I say we kick a couple of other states with Kansas out of the Union
They can hate amongst themselves until they kill each other off. The rest of the states will follow democratic principals outlined in the constitution.

And we would aid all of the liberals that want to move out of those states...seriously I have been saying this is the only way that we will have peace from these crazy people!!

11. You know
that these posts can and are picked up and sometimes they are blasted all over the place. We are working our asses off here where the RW really does see the Democratic party as latte drinking elitists. Every time something like this is printed and read by one of them and saved and shown it breaks down every single damned hard earned piece of progress we have made. So, thanks a whole bunch.

For what it is worth I wouldn't move from this state for any reason. I am quite content to stay here and fight for it. This is not helpful but then again it is expected that we prove to be every damned awful thing they say about us. It is the Democratic way. :banghead:

Besides, the stuff they come up with is much more revolting and offensive. You don't think they're going to pick on anything we say regardless?

I really hope you don't think I'm being serious, it's more out of frustration than anything else.

18. Seems to me you would be
much more productive screaming at your own damned state rather than broadbrushing this one or any other one for that matter.

I love it here but I am not blind to what is happening. I am deeply involved in trying to change things and we are making progress. If you do not give a rat's ass what they think then you, my friend, are a large part of the problem. They live here too and that attitude will only increase the hatred and fear of ideas that are different.

It does not matter if you are serious or not, these things are injurious to those of us who are working on it and I am sick to death of this tactic of bullying other states rather than being out there working on your own.

21. If the shoe fits...
I have no problem with people taking potshots at my state when we do something stupid, and god knows that's pretty darn often. But this article had to do with Kansas - so does this mean that only people from Kansas are allowed to post the article and comment on it?

You have to admit that your state has been getting a lot of bad publicity lately, especially with that idiot homophobic "church", and Sen. Brownback is probably one of the biggest fundies in Congress.

This was not simply a pot shot, it was something that was offensive and....fuck it. I have work to do and am very sick of playing this game.

28. Might be old news as far as you're concerned, but not everywhere else
Rolling Stone just did a great article on Sen. Brownback and his aspirations not too long ago, and I have to admit that it's quite frightening stuff. Even if this man never becomes president, he can really have a huge influence on who does become president.

55. I know Sam
he has been in my house and he showed us Washington one spring I have known him for years. He is all that the article says he is but you would never know it from the way he is when he is here. He wins because the farmers think he is one of them, he wins because of K State, he wins because he pretends to be what he really is not but the truth is coming out. As long as they can get away pretending and nobody gets the news out that he is pretending this will continue. You don't break down people's belief systems by behaving like their leaders do and bashing them over the head. The regular people who only hear this crap are honest good people who don't know any better. You may not like it but kicking ass does not work with people who are basically good but lied to. Last time I grabbed one of them and asked them what was the matter with them and called them a braindead sack of shit I lost them and have been fighting against them ever since. It does not work, it will not work. The leaders? Forget it, nothing will work because they get power and money from it but the people, they have to be as convinced about us as they are about them. It is delecate and it takes some time. They did not become braindead all at once and they will not wake up all at once either and if they do see the light it is because they have been gently guided. Tell them they are wrong and they will dig in. Human nature. I would be the same way (but I would look into it).

23. Sooo...do you honestly believe that these neo-cons are going to give
up their perceived power without a fight....Do you believe we can return to a cordial dialog with these people?

Why do we always have to play nice, why do we always have to be the ones who watch what we say....I don't see anyone on DU making death threats...

Should I list the death threats and taunts made by the NeoCons against liberals, gays, Supreme Court Justices etc...(is this not awful)

You act like I am the only person that has said this.....

I never said I wasn't willing to fight for our country...I have worn more than my share of uniforms, military, police

but why not give them what they want...they want a utopia to persecute anyone that is not like them...that's a fact...if you are a liberal, gay, black, jewish, a woman who wants to make medical decisions about her own body....and the list goes on.....their end goal is to collect everyone up and destroy them. (Fact)

<snip>
This is not helpful but then again it is expected that we prove to be every damned awful thing they say about us
<snip>

What is awful and unAmerican about wanting to live in peace....being able to have a political conversation without being called a a criminal for not agreeing with the president and his criminal gang
How about my and your tax dollars being funnelled into a war that is destroying our military....and at the same time these neo-con churches that do not pay taxes are getting our money....

Dialog and ideas are a good thing....don't get caught in that trap where being quiet is the answer...this is how this country got into this mess.

Peace....

I have had more death threats on my cell phone than many of the people here have ever even heard of. Try working on GLBT rights here in Topeka, Kansas and see what happens.

You do not need to educate me on this, I am in it.

90% of the people I actually have had a conversation with are human just like you and just like me and they can be reached but not if you approach them by calling them names. Are you seriously implying that that was what I was asking?

Dialog and ideas are a good thing? Are you trying to tell me this? Yup, dear I am the quietest person in the state. They are running all over me.

58. I was replying to your "fundie" remark
My relative came-out recently and has been suffering hell in school / around the neighborhood. There are a few fundies in the neighborhood that harassed the hell out of this person and they finally had to go to the authorities which shut-them up. One neighbor in particular happens to be very devout and constantly preaches to their parents about "transgression this" and "transgression that". So, I'm sorry, I'm "shocked" that these fundie whack-jobs want to judge my relative just like that; I'm always shocked. This was in September of 2004 and a few neighborhood characters preached about how Bush will ban the "gays from marrying".

Mike Malloy often talks about Georgia and how different it is and that's what I was referring to about my coming from CT.

So I apologize if you got offended.

Bass-ackwards and fascistic as Kansas may seem to you (and me), it's smack in the middle of the country. What's more, there's probably about half the country that pretty much agrees with what they're doing, one way or another. I don't care what state your in, go outside of a city and chances are you'll find yourself back in "bush country".

When "we" underestimate the widespread support for a reactionary agenda, "we" do ourselves a serious disservice.

Picking on Kansas because a bunch of nutjobs are running things is off-limits and a huge no-no, because not everyone in Kansas is a fundie nutjob. Yet it's perfectly okay for people on DU to bash South Dakota for banning abortion.

Please, don't be so damned sensitive - we all know that there are good people in your state, it would be nice if more of you could rally and throw these jerkoffs out of office. Meanwhile, just know that your state, as well South Dakota, and yes even my state are going to be the laughingstock of the rest of the country until we clean house.

Please, point out the exact wording I used to trash the entire population. I have seen plenty of threads here at DU poking fun at South Dakota, and one person even has a signature pic of a South Dakota license plate with a coat hanger on it.

THAT'S okay - but god forbid I pick on Kansas.

This is one of the reasons why I sometimes dread posting on DU - you try to point out something, and suddenly YOU become the enemy.

37. DUers commonly fail or refuse to recognize the difference....
... between

(a) picking on a state, and

(b) picking on every single person within that state.

Typically the ones who refuse to acknowledge between these two are people who actually live or are from the state in question. And typically an OP will say something of type (a), while the bad-state-resident will treat it as though the OP said something of type (b) - JUST FOR THE EXPRESS PURPOSE OF RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION.

It almost gives the impression that redstate people WANT their states to do fucked up shit so that other-staters will criticize, at which point the redstaters can get their danders up with their not-quite-righteous indignation thang on.

MAKE INDIANA LET OUR INSPECTORS IN, DISCLOSE OR DISARM !!!!!!!!

Indiana (sneakily) says 'but but but we don't have any cow manure quid fertilizer'

Bush fails to get the UN to order Indiana to be bombed so he decides to act with a "coalition
of the willing' (Britain, Australia and Poland) and commences to SHOCK and AWE Indianapolis,
South Bend and JEFFERSONVILLE! WOOO HOOOO !!!!

Mitch Daniels is deposed! Found 6 months later squirreled up in "fat man's squeeze" in Marengo
Cave in Crawford County.

THEN THE REST OF THE USA STARTS POURING BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO OUR STATE

45. BWAAhahahaaa!!!
In case of the great fertilizer massacre, you will find me holed up in the basement of the Vogue Theater in Broad Ripple. Please send pizza, beer, and guitar picks.

(Make 'em leave poor ole Jeffersonville alone!)

50. Isn't that what the RW wackjobs said about California?
Ex-Kansan here who has hundreds of yella dawg relatives working hard for the good guys.

Harrington, Liberal, Wichita, Ottawa, Olathe, Winfield (my hometown)--I know there are more. One of those fine towns is named for one of my relatives, btw.

I understand your frustration, but I literally do have hundreds of relatives, all proud, grassroots, volunteering Dems working hard to save the country.

52. Born there and moved at the age of 4, but my granparents lived their
until their deaths and I saw them nearly every summer. I miss it terribly, just a really nice little town. It's where I got my taste for tennis!

54. That is so funny!
The people I knew from there were either musicians or tennis players for some reason, well maybe it is because that is what I was doing . It is a nice little town and not one to skoff at, good people from all over this state, even the one's who are confused or brainwashed. They will come around, or most of them will eventually. We just have to keep working. :hi:

Didn't think so...
