My guess is it's Hitchens trying to say Zarqawi is Al Qaeda and that the US is in Iraq to fight Al Qaeda, even though Zarqawi, if he is alive, isn't Al Qaeda but rather some other group that conveniently pledged "allegiance" to bin Laden not too long ago.
