So now American soldiers steal bread from poor Iraqi women...
Check out the post here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x689301

And note the paragraph at the end: "Before loading up into the helicopters for a return trip to Baghdad, Iraqi and American soldiers and some reporters helped themselves to the woman’s freshly baked bread, tearing bits off and chewing it as they wandered among the cows. For most of them, it was the only thing worthwhile they’d found all day.

Fucking wonderful.

5. Free? I guess that depends on whose definition we go by.

Free to be slaughtered and free to have the bread ripped from your mouth. Give me some of that freedom :sarcasm:

edit: This wasn't directed at you of course. I know what you meant.

3. This is a war crime?
And someone in the thread compares this to raping and killing civilians?

No wonder that they call us the looney left.

6. In fact...
It's rather amazing to note that Iraqis will offer food and drink to American soldiers, despite everything, including poverty, proving what incredibly decent people they are. And I have no idea if this woman didn't offer them the bread, either.

8. That's what I was wondering.
There is no indication in that article that troops "stole" the bread.

But DUers only assume the worst.

Did I say it was a war crime? No I did not. I said it was tacky.

16. It's all good. I'm sure Halliburton will compensate this lady
for providing meals to our troops.

Maybe they'll remodel her house for her.

7. And there was no comparison to raping and killing.
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 05:52 PM by sfexpat2000
Although the rate of sexual assault AMONG military personnel seems to be up by 40%. We don't count Iraqi rape victims that I know of.

And it's been over a year since The Lancet estimated 100K civilians deaths, not 30K as Junior modestly estimated.

That's looney.

11. That's not a comparison, onehandle, that's a series.
And "helping themselves" is ambiguous language at best.

13. I understand... I really do..
I have a nephew serving right now ( against his will ) I might add.

Please don't lump ALL troops into this category, there are MANY GOOD young Men and Women who are there... against their beliefs.
