Encounter at the filling station this morning...
DUers will periodically describe encounters they've had of strangers making known their distaste for Bush. Here's mine:

I pulled into a station this morning on my way to work. As I began filling my tank, a large white van pulled up next to me and a dapperly dressed male step out. The van was marked "courtesy vehicle" for a local auto dealer, and the man was wearing a kind of corporate blazer. Anyway, I wasn't paying much attention when I heard him say, "Hey, Buddy!..." I looked up and saw him walking over while pointing to my car. Since my car is considered an "antique and classic" in some circles, I thought he was going to ask my about the year--a request I often get from strangers. But instead he said, "I like you sticker" referring to my "Kerry/Edwards" sticker in the back window. I replied with "Thanks," and as he was walking away, he said, "They ought to impeach that bastard!" I managed a "Tell me about it!" response as he walked into the store.

I thought of the significance of this moment. This was not some "leftie liberal" drinking a latte while driving a Volvo, but someone employed by a car dealer, which I think as a business tends to be more conservative. Plus his need to use the "I" word in reference to Bush, as well as his need to question Bush's parentage, was also very significant.

Overall, I thought the encounter was quite revealing.

1. Even though that was kinda an uplifting way to start your day
dont hold your breath about the business world turning on Bush...I find just the opposite as they come up with all sorts of excuses for him and tell me "you Liberals are all alike" in most cases

3. responses to stickers
I have been amazed the last couple years at the positive comments I've gotten for my anti-Bush bumper sticker and the assorted Tshirts. I travel all over Kansas and never expected to get so much positive response in such rural areas. Rarely does anyone say anything negative.

And it's been getting even better lately.
