Scrolling through the guide on my TV, I notice that CMT (Country Music Television) has a show on this afternoon called "Greatest Patriotic Songs," featuring "songs tell of wars the US has endured, with historic footage, stories from veterans, and artists who continue the messages."

:wtf:

Are these people really brain damaged? War = patriotism? Is that what it's come to in this country?

Sheesh.

Am I loony for being a bit stunned by this?

"You can support the troops but not the president."

I'll support the troops. Because I am a patriotic American.
I'll put preferencial treatment to support American companies. Because I am a patriotic American.

I am non-aligned, but know many Republicans who are against offshoring and are now clamouring to find competitors to foreign-made, observing their lower quality which costs far more than the upfront (sticker) cost. Far more.

The offshoring situation is so bad these days, people are openly complaining in restaurants and elsewhere. :wow:

And the rumor mill has said some jobs are coming back. Let's hope the trend continues.

3. You are aware that the national anthem is a paean to war? . . .
You really need to ground yourself in a greater understanding of culture and history.

5. Why is it
that people assume I'm naive or needing of grounding in history and culture because I think it's reprehensible that they're doing this NOW?

I'm aware what an anthem is, in general, and what OUR anthem is specifically. I know that music has been used to gear the people for war for a LONG time... Hell, bagpipes were war WEAPONS, used to frighten opponents before they even caught sight of the troops.

I just can't believe how overt some of this crap has gotten.
