Byrd not giving up on investigating spying on Americans:
I send my heartfelt thanks to you for signing my Wiretap Investigation Petition. As of today, you are one of more than 16,000 people standing up against illegal spying. Your commitment to defending the Constitution and protecting the rule of law is vitally important.

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Vice President Cheney has worked behind the scenes of the United States Senate to cut a back-room deal to stop a full committee investigation into government surveillance of Americans. Under pressure from the White House, some members of the Senate Intelligence Committee have caved in and forsaken Constitutional protections of individual liberty for partisan politics.

I have deep concerns about White House control of the Intelligence Committee. The committee's refusal to hear other proposals and its willingness to submit to the will of the White House are unconscionable.

Although the Administration has made backdoor deals to stop us, this fight is not over. In the coming days, I will continue to speak out for law and liberty. Once again, thank you for your show of support.

Sincerely,

Robert C. Byrd
United States Senator

1. Thanks....this is an issue he can really get into...and give us lots of
help.

I know...all his faults...no need to go into them all. Let's just see how he does and try to support him on this. He was a HERO to us on Iraq War Resolution...he deserves a teensy bit more of our loyalty. He isn't going to be around much longer at his age and he still has mucho experience and ways to help if our Dems will listen and use his parliamentary expertise.

2. BTW...do you have link to petition? I will sign and I saw it scroll by
on some blog today, but didn't have time to "hit the link."

5. No one is perfect; his decision on Alito
was very disappointing, but I'll take Byrd for all his good points. We have to stick together!
And this issue of spying should NOT go away; it's the scariest, to me, of all the things this cabal has done/is doing.
