The link below will lead to the latest outrage over a `controversial' mock war crimes tribunal that just concluded in a high school in Parsippany - my home town.

Freeholders plan a thumbs-down on Bush mock trial

Resolution poised to denounce Parsippany students' class project

BY ROB JENNINGS
DAILY RECORD

The Morris County Board of Freeholders is poised to adopt a resolution tonight condemning a mock war crimes "trial" of President Bush in a Parsippany High School classroom. The exercise in a senior government and politics class has drawn nationwide attention.

Please add your voices by writing a letter to the editor or sending a message to the school board to let them know how you feel about what their students did. Apparently, they are getting opinions mostly from the loud minority who continue to support the President.

The best place to send your letters is to The Daily Record.

Here's my letter to The Daily Record editor:

As a person who was educated in Parsippany during the Vietnam war when people my age worried about getting drafted - I enjoyed the freedom we earned to express dissent and engage in creative activism. These peaceful expressions laid a strong foundation for the joys of citizenship that continue to inspire me as a volunteer.

My daughter is a senior this year, we're hearing words like quagmire again - but, like most students her age, she doesn't think about war very much because there is no draft, there is more censorship and there are so many distractions.

It gave me hope to hear that students in Parsippany were doing this project. By exploring the evidence that could indict the President for war crimes they are learning what the rest of the world already knows about international law with an authentic learning project that involves a very serious issue.

2. The Morris Country Freeholders are all Republicans...
and Morris county is a Republican stronghold. There were a bunch of angry right wingnut letters attacking these students last week. None of them made sense but there was a lot waving of bloody shirts (9/11) and Osama bin Laden and so forth. Please write to the Daily Record and inundate them with support for the Parsippany students.
