House Impeachment Support Growing

A growing number of House Democrats now favor holding an impeaching inquiry into alleged official misconduct by President Bush - and more than a dozen congressional candidates are running this fall on a pledge to vote for an impeachment investigation if they get elected.

According to the Wall Street Journal:

"A House resolution offered by Rep. John Conyers of Michigan seeking an initial impeachment inquiry has attracted support from 26 of 201 House Democrats . . . ImpeachPAC, a group of Democratic activists seeking to remove Mr. Bush from office, lists 14 candidates offering similar commitments."

While the numbers still represent a small minority, that could change quickly after this November's election.

Both well-connected GOP'er, Bill Kristol, and New York Times in-house-conservative, David Brooks, predicted on Sunday's talk shows that Democrats would pick up enough seats to control the House.
And if that happens, says Newsweek's Howard Fineman, its Katie bar the door:

Fineman presdicts: "They're going to investigate the hell out of how the decision to go to Iraq happened all over again."

...

So it's easy to see how Fineman's prediction could come true - especially since Rep. Conyers is in line to take over the House Judiciary Committee, where articles of impeachment would originate, if Democrats win the House.
