BROWNSVILLE - On a quiet street in this bucolic berg, the hand-painted sign is fixed to a house. Beneath it an arrow points to the Hispanic family next door. The sign says:
WE MUST PROTECT OUR BORDERS.

I'll try and get the original story, but isn't this a code phrase for the freepers?

Travis wrote a letter to the editor saying this wasn't about racism but respect. "I am not a racist," he tells you in an interview. "I have Mexican friends, Puerto Rican friends, black friends. Some of my best friends are Mexicans."

Just amazing to me.

So does his 1st amendment right trump the victims right to not be harassed for their country of origin?

1. And he'll never admit that he's an asshole, either. Racists never do.

2. Yeah, that's a code phrase...
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 08:30 AM by Spider Jerusalem
seems you generally hear it in the form of 'some of my best friends are Jews/blacks/Asian/other minority'--the unspoken subtext here usually seems to be 'but I don't want them living next door/joining my country club/going to school with my kids/thinking they're as good as white/Christian people'...(at least, that's what my general impression of people who say things like that is).

4. Well, Mr. Garcia is a better man then me,
Because I don't know if I could have been as polite about it as he seems to be.
Frankly, I would have put a boot up his behind...But I'm a hothead when it comes to my family.

3. I'd like to get those "Friends" take on that.
Just to see if they shared the same view on the relationship with this fellow. Somehow I doubt they feel quite as close to him.

9. I saw one that said sex crime and an arrow in town
I drove by twice as I could not believe it in this small town. People will do any thing. And on both sides on the one in town I guess.

10. And
"Without checking with Garcia, Travis ripped out the fence between the two houses with a tow-chain from his pickup. And has threatened the Garcias with calling the Immigration and Naturalization Service. "I can tell by looking which ones are illegals."

Why would he rip out a fence....... the guy is crazy.
