Newt Gingrich wants the Rs to seize on "reform" as an issue before the
next election. I heard this on the radio on the way in this morning. He says the Rs have a golden opportunity to step forward and reform Congress. How's that for irony? And do you think they could sell something like that? The Dems have a plan for reform they put out last week. Is he trying to coopt both the Dems and McCain to set himself up for 08? If so, Gingrich needs to be cut off at the knees and NOW.

1. Hmmm... given that Newtie was ousted...
... for corruption himself, that's pretty rich. Ol' Newt seems to be counting on the collective short memory of the electorate. Again.

One thing for sure, the GOP has no shortage of chutzpah.

2. So they broke it, and now they want to fix it. Too bad, so sad.
Neocons don't know how to govern without graft and corruption. Their fix would be to eliminate the laws that make graft and corruption illegal. A lot like when Crazy King George did away with FISA courts and stated he would ignore the NO Torture bill.

3. Yeah, he was corrupt. But memories in the American public are short.
And what people will think when the hear the name 'Newt' is either that someone's discussing a frog's embryo (for lack of a better word right now) or they're talking about the guy who wants to clean up the government.

4. Reform? They've been in total control for 3 years now.
If they really wanted to accomplish that, they would have by now.

But Newt does have a good point.

They could run on that this year, "We will reform Congress! (nevermind that we were in power while these scandals took place, or that these scandals involved our leadership)"

After all, the much celebrated Contract on America helped them win a ton of seats, and it was all just a huge lie. So why wouldn't they do that again?

Gingrich can bluster all the way through '08 primary season. The enemy of my enemy is my tmporary friend. He can not win all he can do is upset the nexus.

6. Newt has already
formed a committee that is working to build a nation-wide platform for him to run in '08. I agree that now would be the best time to knee-cap his operation.

7. I agree completely!
He was not above throwing anyone under the bus the other day on his WJ guest appearance. It was pretty amusing to sit there and watch the pot accuse the kettle. He would throw them all over for the WH. Take him down now!

8. Newt is trying to position himself as an outsider for '08
I put Fox News on last night (I needed a good laugh) and not long after Newt came on and he was yammering on about the corruption in Washington, Washington this, washington that. Does he think we've forgotten?

9.  Yes,I think he could sell it unfortunately.
We have the stupidest population that we've ever had. Not much critical thinking going on outside of us progressives. They'll buy it. If they buy that the government spying on us is good, they'll buy anything.

10. Isn't it funny how Newt thinks he's Mr. Clean. But
compared to the crooks in the RW today he may be the fairest of them all.

12. It's too late in the game for Repubs to reform for '06 election
It is already '06. And what is the reason for the reform - It is because they got caught - not because they want to be held more accountable to the people who vote for them or any such thing - the main reason for the likes of Newt saying they want reform is to win an election.
