So....NYT's Columnist Tom Freidman writes the Bush Trade Policy?
Buried in this Newsweek article is this little piece of information. Kind of confirms what many of us here have thought. Friedman is the stovepipe into and out of this administrations Trade Policy. Should a "columinist" have THAT MUCH POWER?

Snip buried in the article:

No Safe Harbor Here
How a routine sale became a political gale—and what's next for Bush in the ports storm.

Reassured, Bush called reporters to his conference room aboard Air Force One, where he suggested that critics were indulging in anti-Arab prejudice and promised to veto any legislation blocking the deal. Senior Bush officials (many of whom have been reading Thomas Friedman's latest book, "The World Is Flat") worried that killing the deal would alienate trading partners and imperil the president's economic agenda.

1. The title of Friedman's book is very appropriate
The Corporate Globalist view of economics that Friedman supports makes about as much economic sense as did the historical view that the earth really is flat.

Hopefully, the inane theories of Friedman and his ilk will eventusally be consigned to the samwe dustbin of history as its physial flat-earth counterpart.

2. Must read
Matt Taibbi's review of Friedman's The World is Flat. Hilarious and lethal.

"The usual ratio of Friedman criticism is 2:1, i.e. two human words to make sense of each single word of Friedmanese. Friedman is such a genius of literary incompetence that even his most innocent passages invite feature-length essays."

3. LIMBOsevic said FRIEDMAN is OUR (Lefties') leader
That's news to me. We were all against the Iraq attack. Since FRIEDMAN is Whatever-Israel-wants, how would it be that he is OUR leader?
