SCORES of Iranian students - including women - yesterday enlisted in a suicide bombing course created to wreak revenge for the Danish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed.
The Iranians registered for "martyrdom-seeking operations" training courses on suicide attacks as escalating violence over the depictions claimed yet more lives.

On a weekend of cartoon-fuelled bloodshed that stretched from Africa to Pakistan, 27 people died in separate riots in Nigeria and Libya when protests spiralled out of control.

In Nigeria, 16 people were killed when Muslim protesters turned violent, torching churches, shops and cars.

It was the deadliest protest so far over satirical cartoons of the prophet, first published in a Danish newspaper, that Muslims regard as blasphemous.

Except that the jackasses in charge here were culturally ignorant of any foreign culture, the real socio-political situation in that region, and really didn't understand the powder keg they were about to ignite by unilaterally invading a sovereign nation for a lie.

It's not the cartoon they're rioting about any more - that was just a tiny spark that set off the real bomb.

We would dearly love this to merely be about crazy one-eyed cartoon hating radical islamist aye-rabs, but it's really not any more, and never has been. We're just too incompetent to deal with this in a meaningful way, and so it will continue to escalate, fueled by people who know exactly how to take advantage of it while our Secretary of State is mincing around saying "the cartoons weren't helpful".

It just boggles the mind.
