i think the shrub administration has finally jumped the shark
i think shrub is the lamest duck in the west.

unlike most administrations, this one is virtually 100% campaign-oriented. people whined about clinton's non-stop approval-seeking, but he used the public support to get his agenda accomplished. his campaigning was oriented around issues, not the other way around.

the shrub administration is ALL about the next election. behind the scenes they are raiding the treasury, but even that is about payback for campaign contributions and the promise of more campaign contributions for the next elections.

the problem? THERE IS NO NEXT ELECTION FOR SHRUB. so even people like karl rove have moved on. the people who propped shrub up, the people who were once focused on the next election, have now scattered to focus on various congressional and senatorial campaigns, maybe even jockeying for position for the next presidential campaign. the point is, NO ONE has a particular interest in propping shrub up anymore. all the banana republicans would benefit from a popular president, but no one can focus full-time on that the way they once could. they all have their more personal and more narrow campaigns to focus on.

i think the scandals that are coming out now are symptomatic of this. they just aren't responding the way they used to, they aren't controlling the press the way they used to. oh, the press is still hugely biased, but not nearly what it was during the 2000 or 2004 campaigns.

i think the shrub administration is toast.

FINALLY!

1. That's a good point but I'm not celebrating yet
The problem is that w really is a lame duck, so he's not our biggest problem. Our biggest problem is the next one they appoint to the White House using rigged machines and a fixed Supreme Court.

8. I totally agree with you
Bush was selected in 2000 and in 2004 Ohio rigged the machines

We can be hopeful that the states that use the touch screen will give you a paper receipt

2. Let's just hope we can translate that
into victories in 2006 and 2008.

14. Bush cannot get rid of term limits by himself, though I wouldn't
put it past him to think he's so far above the law and the Constitution that he could just sign a piece of paper and it would be done.

Term limits are set by the 22nd Amendment, and thus, any change to that Amendemnt would have to go through the same process as a change to any other Amendment.

6. Well, he jumped for me several years ago

But that's a good point about his motivations right now. He's always only been concerned about his next election. He never really even cared that much about the election of fellow Republicans. All he's got left now is looting and pillaging while he still can, I suppose.

15. I don't think Bush ever gave a flying fig about being President
in the sense that he did not want to take the responsibility of the office; he just wanted to, as you say, loot and pillage as much as possible. That's what his presidency has been all about. he doesn't care about us, about the country, about our relationship with other countries, and he sure as hell doesn't care about the Constitution. It's all about him, and what he can get for himself (and for his cronies).

11. next election HELL! This misadministration is all about rewarding
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 10:47 PM by Raster
its benefactors. Make no mistake, the petrol/military/industrial complex bought and paid for this pResidency. There is a damned good reason by exxon is making record profits. This misadministration has transferred more public wealth--land, mineral resources, water rights, timber, etc. the list goes nauseatingly on--to the corporate sector thaN all other administrations combined. There is a good reason why if feels like we are being raped and pillaged--WE ARE!
