BREAKING: Bush claims he didn't know about port deal
until after it was signed.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11494815/

the link headline: "Bush was in the dark about the port deal".

Oh, please.
He still says he'll veto any congressional act to block the sale.

Anything is better than allowing this deal to go through.

4. Ind the dark about Katrina, in the dark about Cheney shooting,
in the dark about Osama planning to fly planes into the Twin Towers as per his PDB, in the dark about post-invasion Iraq....

It's awfully f*cking dark in the mind of our President.

Funny how the B*sh crowd is floating this one... sounds like damage control here. Well, the buck stops on YOUR desk, Chimpy.

11. Yeah, when the going gets tough, Bush is suddenly
"out of the loop" on what his administration is doing (or not doing, i.e. Katrina & Rita).

If I understand this correctly, Rumsfeld didn't know about it until this past weekend. Bush says he "learned about it recently". Um, who made the decision?

Could it be Cheney? Or was he blissfully unaware as well?

I will be baffled beyond belief if the vast majority of Americans don't see this as utter bs.

12. The President's Daily Briefing
Is it concievable that on no morning in the not too distant past the President's daily briefing would mention the sale of the operation of every major port, roughly one third of all the deep water access ports in the country, was in the process of being sold to a foreign nation?

Would not this sale rise to the occasion of mention in that well known breifing? If not something is seriously wrong.

19. Don't forget
this is a man who, as Governor of Texas, spent hours playing video games while everyone else around him worked their asses off. And, for someone who's allegedly President of the United States, he sure does keep an eerily clean desk. Remeber he's spent his whole life -- his WHOLE LIFE -- farting around and then taking credit for the work of others. It doesn't surprise me that he wouldn't know about the Port Deal and it doesn't surprise me that he'd Veto it. He's been told that this deal needs to go through because Mr. X and Mr. Y (who are close friends and business associates of Mr. A and Mr. Z) said so and that's that. The thought that his Republican "friends" in the House and Senate would ever cause a stink and not let it happen never, ever occured to him. He's the President!

30. I like the poll in the middle of this article. It asks if it matters what
country owns the ports. The possible responses are "yes, in a post 9/11 world we shouldnt give control to an Arab country" which I think sounds racist against Arabs. The other option is "no, all that matters is the job performance". That is such a phoney poll (fake surprise). You're either racist or not people - which is it?

I voted "I don't know" becuase I didn't want to say "no Arab country". Why don't they word it as "no country that supports anti-American terrorism" or "no country with terrorist ties"?

It amazes me what subtle things they lace into many MSM polls.

Why threaten to veto anything that would restrict or push back the deal then? Why the little anger show for the media yesterday? Why the emotion?

Sounds like he thinks he can buckle to the pressure without anyone realizing his complete flip-flop on his support for the deal. What a horrible tactic though...is he really admitting his own ignorance? Is Rove drinking on the job?

Lots of miscommunication lately, Cheney may have shot one of his best friends in the face but the Bush administration seems to be shooting itself in the head.

What was he planning to veto yesterday? a ham sandwich? I hope a democratic rep takes to the floor today and chastised the president about his did not know comments? and the 28 layoffs that got re-enstated, what was that about?

and any comments on that holy shrine that was blown up in Iraq? good thing the insurgency is in it's last throes!!!

57. I'm confused. Didn't * get "fast track authority"????
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 12:42 PM by F.Gordon
Trade Promotion Authority. Trade promotion authority, formerly known as "fast track" authority, authorizes the President to negotiate international trade agreements that Congress can accept or reject, but not amend. Trade promotion authority had been granted to five former presidents until it expired in 1994. Title XXI of the Trade Act of 2002, the Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Act of 2002, reinstates trade promotion authority, subject to a number of conditions.

Pursuant to the Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Act of 2002, the President is required to consult regularly with Congress and solicit advice from advisory committees and the public as international trade agreements are being negotiated. The President is also required to notify Congress of proposed changes to U.S. trade laws in advance of completing negotiations on an international trade agreement. This will give Congress the opportunity to comment on proposed changes before an international trade agreement is final, when there is still time to modify the agreement.

Unless this wasn't renewed?

Tell me again why we even need a congress these days? Seems like a waste of space and money with the boy king in power.....

On edit... unless this doesn't apply, but it seems that it would. I don't know.

61. Exon-Florio statute... "a report must be provided to the President"
The Exon-Florio statute established a 30-day review following receipt of a notification. For those transactions for which an extended 45-day review (or "investigation") is completed, a report must be provided to the President, who must by law announce the final decision within 15 days. In total, the process can not exceed 90 days.
