Dear Bush.... Study President Arroyo's speech
from shortly after the disastrous mudslide in the Philippines.

THAT, my good sir, is how one leads a country. Inspires rescue workers to do their best, better than their best. Give hope to victims and families.

She did not play guitar, or lick frosting from a Senator's fingers.

She did not feel the need to fly over in a 747.

No, she got in front of cameras and pledged "the full effort" of the Philippine National Government to help people affected.

you, sir, are an asshat, and an embarrassment.

That is all.

1. So, so true
Totally agree, President Arroyo said exactly what her people needed to hear. We should be so lucky. I'm having this big debate on another board about women running countries... she is an example of one who knows what needs to be done and does it. Kudos to Gloria!

5. I can't believe after all the great women
leaders we had last century there is any sort of debate possible.

Even Margaret Thatcher, hate her politics, was a good leader.

12. You'd be amazed how stuck on stupid some people can be.
There is an army of pitiful women in this country who believe America will never have a female president until women embrace their feminity and quit acting like men. Makes me want to hurl.

No inspiration. No bipartisanship. Just playing to the base for days about other matters.

6. flying around trying to insert himself into a photo-op

I was horrifed when I heard that GOP strategists were planning Bush's schedule around a hoped-for "bullhorn moment", because they wanted TV footage that would push the images of drowning people off the news shows -- and give him a "bounce" like that time after 9/11 when he clambered up on top of that crushed fire truck at Ground Zero and addressed the rescue workers. He flew down to the Gulf Coast a half-dozen times that month, in search of that perfect picture?

It was pathetic and disgusting, and I really didn't want to believe that someone so powerful would be so clueless, uncaring, and opportunistic. Especially after he'd had ample chance to look at how devastated those 9/11 families were, by their losses.

When I think of Bush's people, self-righteously accusing Bill Clinton of "insinuating himself into national tragedies", and pretending that their guy is quiet and efficient behind the scenes ... it was just appalling.
