I don't know what to think about this situation. I do not believe at this point that Cheney will face any real consequences for his actions. Maybe he was drunk, we'll never know. I worry, however, that other issues are getting pushed to the side not only by the MSM but by the indie press. The pressure on Congress to hold NSA wiretap hearings, the situation in Iraq, the privatization of Social Security slipped into the budget, etc etc. Why was the Patriot Act shuttled through while Feingold was hung out to dry? What about Hackett's being horribly dumped by the Democrats? A war veteran?? What about Iran?

Randi Rhodes has been ranting on this for days, which is disturbing. I admire her a great deal, but I have to ask: Why are we getting so caught up in this? The only thing I heard in that interview with Cheney by F Network was his mention that he can declassify whatever he wants. Is this a defense being set up for Libby? Why the emphasis on the gun and not this comment of his? What is happening here?

Cheney's gun incident will not bring this criminal administration down. It simply won't. We need to get back on message, and let those weakling Democratic congressmen allegedly representing us know that their time is ticking down...

3. You have to understand how the overly partisan mind works
Scandal attracts much more interest than policy. It was the same way with the Republicans going after Clinton in the '90's.

Although this Cheney shooting thing is great for late-night TV show hosts, it appears unlike to amount to anything. But that doesn't meant that it isn't funny.

4. You know why? Because Cheney's got to go.
And because the Republican Congress won't do anything about his many, many crimes. If shooting a guy and sending him to the ICU while drunk is what causes Cheney's demise, so be it. I'll take what I can get.

5. Except that there is no proof that Cheney was drunk
If there was, this story would certainly have some legs.

Personally, I think that we are better off with Cheney as VP, rather than someone more charismatic who could actually make a good candidate for President in 2008.

This incident will not send him anywhere. I'm with you about getting rid of him and the rest of the cabal, but I don't think it will be by one freak occurrence. If Cheney wanted someone dead, he'd not be within a thousand miles of the trigger and the bullet and the body. We have to stay on message, which is the war on Americans and the world is wrong. The war is wrong. The war is wrong. The war on the old, the sick, the poor, the Iraqis, the Constitution, the war on the environment, all are in the sights of the cabal. Wherever they cast their avaricious glances and reach for money or with a gun, it's war, and it's wrong. There is nothing they do for the betterment of people or the land. They would destroy the whole planet and expect some kind of Republican god to reward them with life everlasting.

It's a war. It's wrong. That's the message. I don't know how else to say it.
