AAR Disappointment
I well understand the need to recharge, and many talk show hosts take the holidays off, but I would've much preferred that AAR get substitute hosts for the majority of their programs rather than running "Best Of."

The main reason: The right wing is being allowed to shape the discussion of the wiretapping. That 12 Myths on the wiretapping issue on Media Matters last week was great. I wish there were more live shows on AAR hammering that home.

1. Not only that, but they are repeating the repeats
I know the best of Al Franken that was on yesterday was played earlier in the week, because I listened to it at work. The Oy Oy Oy Show is funny the first time you hear it, but after the third time, well....if I had had a url for an alternative progress talk show yesterday, I'd have gone to it (DU only had link to AAR at the time)

2. I agree completely
This nonsense of running "best of" shows for two weeks while the Republicans throw everything they've got into the debate is a big mistake. There are plenty of liberal local talk show hosts that would be thrilled for the chance to substitute, which keeps us on message and builds up a pool of talent.

4. Management simply doesn't get it.
Liberal radio has to be about the current issues.

What they're doing is comparable to re-running news broadcasts.

They haven't got a clue.

9. True, let the B-squad take over for the holidays
so they get some experience and people can hear the current news.

13. And there's no shortage of very qualified, interesting people
who are willing to do it.

5. It'll be okay tomorrow...
... hosts will return and I bet they'll be lamenting their two weeks off as much as you are...

Happy New Year!

6. Don't let your frustration end here. Call or write Danny Goldberg and...
...let him know that you've shut off the reruns for the past two weeks. Commend him that Malloy, Hartman, and Werbe did a yeoman's job with live fill-ins, but let him know that there are folks like the Young Turks and Nancy Skinner out there who could sub too.

NGU.

11. Shit... Goldberg seems either tone deaf totally or
is purposely trying to destroy AAR, if you ask me.

7. since they dumped Morning Sedition I rarely listen anymore

14. see my post above.... I kind of agree on Goldberg...
I tried to listen to M Riley's
ramp-up. Painful. painful. painful..... I liked him with Marc Maron but by himself... well, I just don't know.

15. The Funny is gone, now it's just talk talk talk
which is fine, most of the programming on Air America is like that, but it was nice to have my liberal anger about the issues served up with some great humor. Goldberg should just admit he's on the RNC payroll.

10. For the most part on AAR
during the holiday break they've had live guests on programs. Thom Hartmann did Majority Report, Mike Malloy did Randi Rhodes, Peter Werbe did Mike Malloy's show. I'm not sure about the others because I don't really listen to them.

16. those were the exception, not the rule...
and I share your gratitude for them.

But, they tossed Marc Maron and Morning Sedition on the 16th--rather than keep him around another week or so and introduced Mark Riley by himself (with no real structure to the supposed new "ramp-up" show--painfully boring and then it ended up with him pre-taping intros to "best of" snippets from all the AAR shows during that segment. Rachel Maddow has been gone since the 15th or so, too--supposedly prepping for her retuned two hour show that will follow Riley. Franken was all repeats since around the 15th as well. Majority Report had Hartmann some of the time which was great but then started best ofs from the week of Thanksgiving!!

I credit Majority Report, Malloy, and Randi Rhodes Shows for providing some substitute hosting. The rest was pretty much a waste. I even went back to NPR!

12. Agreed.
Its good to catch a show you've missed, but enough is enough. I have to believe that there are tons of liberal talk show host wannabes waiting for a lucky break- who would be happy to get just a few hours of air time during the holidays.

17. Bruce Burch's show streams perfectly
That's 4th Estate radio's 'all things reconsidered' same with Bob Kinkaid at Headson Radio..the streams are solid and you can surf other sites, even post etc w/out problems...AAR invariably begins buffering after a few minutes, and who need that for a 'best of'....all in all, AAR is proving a good laugh for the naztypoohs (and it's not that the talent/skill or money aren't available; just that AAR seems to be the usual rightwing idea that 'occupied' ground can't be used to stage raids on their bushit mountain strongholds ie fox, cnn, nbc, abc, pbs, reuters, nytimes, disney, spielberg, the latenight jokers ad nazism....)
btw even the name 'air america' was for a cia run drug/gun runner airline in asia back during vietnam era...one would think a 'liberal radio' station would chose a less creepy name, but who's to say they didn't just flip a coin during a hookah party? who are we to criticise those who 'speak' for us?)
