Who protects the VP?
In the 1970's, when Rockafellar was VP, he was protected, not by the Secret Service, but by the Executive Protection Service.

The VP didn't have a mansion then, either.

Has the Secret Service taken over protecting the VP? If so, does anyone know when?

1. The VeePee, since Rockefeller, has lived in the CNO's house
The Chief of Naval Operations was shifted over to the Navy Yard, to a crappy house (well, crappy for the most senior 4 star in the branch) in a bad neighborhood, basically. Those USMC guards weren't ceremonial!!!

The Navy still pays the bills too--it takes a massive chunk out of the DON budget. The electricity costs alone are staggering.

5. Do you know when
The protection of the VP switched from EPS to the Secret Service?

When Ford was POTUS, I applied for a job with some company called the Executive Protection Service (or some name similar). They had a picture of Nelson Rockefeller on the wall because it was their job to protect him as he was the Vice President.

They also protected foreign dignitaries. Secret service only protected POTUS (and pursued counterfeiters as they were a part of the Treasury).

Could it have switched when the Vice President moved into the Naval Observatory?
