MSNBC scrubs "beer or two" comment from its story...
This Google News search clearly catches the comment...

But now, the story is clean of ANY beer reference...

I swear, you nitpicking, probing, detail minded DUers are so wonderful.

How dare you use the wonders of technology to catch the msm playing games and changing stories. Why can't you just accept the edited and revised version of garbage they put out, instead of trying to find details in the stories which were expunged.

I swear, you're making it difficult for the msm to maintain these coverups, and you're probably helping the terrorists to win. Shame on you.

17. I'm really glad that MSNBC got busted doing this
However, my first thought was that they scrubbed that quote because they were worried about Cheney suing them for libel. Whether they took out the beer reference because the WH ordered them to or because their own in-house lawyers advised them to, we'll probably never know, but I don't think it's necessarily evidence that MSNBC is aiding and abetting the WH.

Or, of course, maybe it is.

36. She witnessed the shooting. But she thought he had a heart attack?
That no make no sense.

First Armstrong says she witnessed the shooting, saw Willington go back for the bird, and then approach from the rear without announcing himself. She describes how Willington is "peppered." Then she says when the SS came running in she thougt he had a heart attack. Now why would she think that when she just saw him get shot?

78. According to Washington Post she saw what happened

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/12/AR2006021200524.html

According to Armstrong's account, she was watching from a car while Cheney, Whittington and another hunter got out of the vehicle to shoot at a covey of quail. Whittington shot a bird and as he went to retrieve it, Cheney and the third hunter discovered a second covey.

Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," Armstrong said, according to the Associated Press.

84. So, this bunch of idiots were driving around in cars..........
with loaded shotguns (another big no-no), in all likelihood under the influence of alcohol, cruising around until they could find a covey of tame, pen raised Quail, they get out of the car and start shooting. One guy actually shoots a Quail and after retrieving it heads back toward the group. Cheney then thinks he hears some bird noises, turns and fires without first acquiring a target and shoots the guy behind him in the face. :wow: This is not hunting, this is the adult equivalent of teenagers cow tipping or doing some other equally stupid juvenile behavior.

People are spending too much time discussing the suspected alcohol aspect of this incident. What we should be discussing is the relationship between Cheney and his Swiss Miss companion, MRS. WILLEFORD! I wonder if Lynn knew swinging dick was spending an overnight "hunting" trip with her? I'm inclined to believe, not. This was supposed to be a "boy's night out", male bonding :eyes: excursion and I bet Lynn was as blind sided about this as Whittington was.

Remember people, SEX is all people care about. They could give a crap is Cheney was drunk, but if he was schtupping someone else's wife on a supposed "hunting" trip, well THAT my friends might finally be enough to enrage his very religious, conservative, mindless backers. The pursuit of this story would be the real nail in Darth Cheney's coffin. I hope some young, bright journalist with stars in his/her eyes has the guts to investigate Cheney's involvement with Mrs. Willeford because I think that's where the REAL story lies!

Armstrong also told NBC News that she does not believe alcohol was involved in the accident. She says she believes no one that day was drinking, although she says there may have been beer available during a picnic lunch that preceded the incident. "There may be a beer or two in there," she said, "but remember not everyone in the party was shooting."

and my thinking was a case or two

The other people in the party were on duty! Secret Service and medical personnel and the ranch hands. They were not drinking. So who is left? The hostess with the mostest, the other women in the party, and two men. HEY HEY HEY we might be getting to the sex part.... Lynne was NOT a member of the party?

yuck

interesting side note, I have had internet connection issues ever since googling bird shot.... my husband has had no problems and he sits right beside me.... eeerrrrr

55. This means the quote touched a nerve, a BIG NERVE
For MSNBC to remove a factual quote from an article relating to reasons that might explain the Vice President's delay in reporting the shooting incident means to me that the White House must have gotten their nose out of joint. These few words relating to a "beer or two" are not part of an editorial opinion. The story's writer didn't offer the opinion that alcohol consumption contributed to the hunting accident. The words were merely a direct quote from an individual who witnessed the events on that week-end. For MSNBC to go to the trouble of scrubbing all reference to this quote regarding alcohol consumption means that Dick has something to hide. Otherwise, if he did nothing wrong, why go to the trouble of getting this scrubbed?

57. One wonders if the authorities were told that there was NO alcohol...
served on the ranch that day.

The quote was that there a little alcohol there, but the "shooters" were dry. I guess Armstrong was trying to paint an innocent-but-believable story. But I guess ANY mention of the presence of beer was too much.

62. It was a party of four, right?
Have we conclusively ruled out the two female companions as "shooters"? Do we even know if they hunted, too, and whether they brought along shotguns? If the two women DID participate in hunting, then why would there be beer in a picnic basket if it wasn't intended to be consumed? If the women DIDN'T hunt, is it really realistic to think that only the two women are going to be having beers while the two male "shooters" watch them drink at lunchtime? If people intend to go hunting "dry", they don't bring beer with them for lunch, as it's always a temptation to have one or two.

65. "Bingo", imo
Additionally, talk of alcohol in regards to this shooting/potential homicide brings in to sharp focus the question of the behavior of law enforcement officials, including the Secret Service.

I'm continually amazed that no one, afaik, in the press has asked any of the spokespeople if there were any tests done on Willington that would indicate the presence or absence of alcohol in his blood.

What obligation do the doctor's have to disclose this info to law enforcement?

Is law enforcement permitted to ask? If so, did they?

72. Look at ANOTHER interesting quote from Armstrong
It's here at this DU thread.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x423196

Armstrong was quoted as saying she remained in the car while THREE hunters were out shooting quail. This would imply, I suppose, that the female Swiss Ambassador was hunting quail. She specifically mentions a "Third Hunter". If there were three hunters in a party of four, then why the beer? Was it for Armstrong herself? She was going to be having beers while the other three watched her drink it? I don't get it. Something here is weird.

asking them why they scrubbed that quote from the website. They need to know that they've been caught and there's proof. Not proof that Cheney was drinking (well, not absolute proof), but proof that they scrub their stories of inconvenient facts after the fact. Who knows what they scrub before the fact?

81. Yes, that is their problem.
Red State America understands real well how bad a mistake was made. They hunt.

And the more the Press says stuff like "very stable" and "peppered", it will only get worse.

They will realize they are being played too.

Tough situation for the right.

61. An admission of guilt
A law officer who hears a driver say something to the effect of "...had one or two..." knows the driver had just admitted to driving while drinking - at that point it's only a question of how many, and it's time to determine sobriety. Obviously we'll never know since the Secret Service kept local law enforcement away from him, but it certainly was highly suspicious behaviour.

One other thing - wasn't there a third person in the hunting party? Who was it?

Can you say "witness"?

Worst. Administration. Ever.

66. Sad that it's come to this.
We need to scramble around and make copies of stories before it disappears down the memory hole. Tomorrow Armstrong will be denying she ever said this.

The media fails us yet again.

68. Blatant - it makes me even more suspicious about alcohol being
involved. My major suspicion comes from the many hours' delay in Cheney speaking to a law enforcement agency. Plenty of time to delay taking a breathalyzer test.

I'll update the compilation threads in the GD and Research Forum (see links in my sig line) shortly.

83. Raw Story: 'Beer quote' pulled from MSNBC Cheney hunting party article
Raw Story
'Beer quote' pulled from MSNBC Cheney hunting party article
February 15, 2006

http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Beer_quote_pulled_from_MSNBC_Cheney_0215.html

An article at MSNBC's Website was edited to remove references to alcohol, that may have been available at a picnic, which preceded the accidental shooting of a 78-year-old lawyer by Vice President Cheney last Saturday, RAW STORY has learned.

The change to the article was quickly noticed by a number of liberal bloggers, and their readers, many of whom have been following this much discussed story very closely for the last few days.

In the article, credited to Aram Roston and the NBC Investigative Unit, Katherine Armstrong, a member of the family who own the ranch, revealed new details about her lobbying for the Bush Administration, and about circumstances surrounding the incident itself, which wasn't reported to the media until the following morning. Armstrong was the one who reported the news to a local news reporter, and she said that Cheney agreed with the decision.

The following paragraph was removed for unexplained reasons from the article sometime after it first was published on the Internet:

Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 07:02 AM by mikeytherat
Right near the beginning, there's a great shot of the sign at Armstrong's ranch stating, clearly, No Alcohol or Illegal Drugs. When she admitted alcohol was present, that was a BIG f**k up.

BIG.

Someone needs to get a still of this frame ASAP!

Got it! Here's a screen grab of the sign:
