Angry White House Lashes Out At Katrina Critics
Angry White House Lashes Out At Katrina Critics

POSTED: 2:35 pm PST February 13, 2006
UPDATED: 3:11 pm PST February 13, 2006

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration on Monday pushed back hard against Katrina-response criticism leveled by ex-disaster agency chief Michael Brown and congressional investigators.

"I reject outright the suggestion that President George W. Bush was anything less than fully involved," said White House homeland security adviser Frances Fragos Townsend.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff "unequivocally and strongly" rejected suggestions that his agency was preoccupied with terror threats at the expense of preparing for natural disasters.

Bush, who was traveling in Arizona and California the day the storm roared ashore, was "highly engaged" in monitoring its advance, Townsend said.

snip...
"But let's be clear about the facts," she said. "As you know, President Bush was highly engaged in the preparation and response effort, beginning when Katrina was a tropical storm off the coast of Florida."

2. No way are they ever going to be able to convince anyone that Bush was
"fully involved". That's outrageous.

20. His Aides had to put together a DVD video for him to get his
attention. After several days he was still not giving it the attention some aides thought it needed. So, they put this together to show him. It was a short video, as I recall reading.

Am I the only one who remembers this?

And thank you for the Valentine Heart! It makes me feel so special.

7. Nobody is allowed to criticize Junior we know this...I like this bit
But let's be clear about the facts," she said. "As you know, President Bush was highly engaged in the preparation and response effort, beginning when Katrina was a tropical storm off the coast of Florida."

What like eating cake with John McCain, strumming a guitar, going to two fundraisers and then having Dan Bartlett having to compile a DVD of the carnage in NOLA for Junior to look at 'um six days later?

11. fake outrage alert!!!
They can be just as outraged as they like but that does not change the facts and the entire country witnessed it!!!

The govt failed the victims of Katrina immediately after the hurricane and they continue to fail them even today!!!

Their fake outrage accomplishes nothing! Unless they get off their fat asses and actually do something for these people!!

35. that was my point too!
Their fake outrage is merely an attempt to distract people from the fact that none of them acted accordingly!!!

I read an article in the NY Times last week which said there was only 1 govt agency that acted appropriately in Katrina and that was the National Weather service. Unfortunately, no one else listened to them.

the blivet was in Crawford. It never dawned on anyone once to set the record straight, that he wasn't even there. They even went so far as to say he returned from his summer vacation early, from Crawford (technically true as he flew there for a night).
The lying liars...

There exsits in this country. Not one single thing this administration will not lie straight faced about. Nothing can ever be their fault. We as a nation have three horrible years lying ahead of us. Of that I have no doubt in my military shaped mind.

22. They'll say anything- and the media will repeat it over and over
with little or no analysis- and no regard at all for the truth.

It's gotten to the point where the sole purpose of reports like this is to misinform people.

All the more reason to turn them off and ignore them- and urge everyone else you know to do the same.

Gee ... let's compare the IMMEDIACY of their reaction to some mild criticsim of the atrocious response to Katrina to the DELAY in actually responding, shall we??? Let's compare the QUICKNESS of their attack on anyone that dares to suggest they're culpable for some lives being lost with the TARDINESS in acting to SAVE those lives, shall we?

Bastards! Ghouls! :grr:
