Bush's approval rating drops to 39% - CNN/USA/Gallop
Poll: Americans nervous about Iran
Bush's approval rating drops to 39 percent

Monday, February 13, 2006; Posted: 4:12 p.m. EST (21:12 GMT)

(CNN) -- Americans are nervous about the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran, but also worry about the ability of the United States and the United Nations to deal with the situation, a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Monday suggests.

Iran says it is developing a nuclear program to provide energy. The United States, France, England and Germany suspect Iran aims to develop nuclear weapons.

Last month, Iran removed U.N. monitoring seals from its equipment and said it was beginning nuclear research.

The U.N.'s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, voted February 4 to report Iran to the Security Council for possible sanctions. Iran ended its cooperation with the agency and said it would commence uranium enrichment and halt snap inspections, while still leaving open the possibility of further negotiations.

The 1,000 adults who responded to the telephone poll taken between Thursday and Sunday said they fear the Bush administration will be too quick to use military force if diplomacy fails, and at the same time are concerned the administration won't do enough to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Any guesses as to what the actual figures are?

from the article:
(emphasis mine)
"Sixty-eight percent of the respondents called for economic and diplomatic action to keep Iran away from atomic weapons, while only 9 percent called for military action."

Do ya think th' people are trying to tell this warmongering thugpile something?

2. We have to stop Bush on the Iran issue before the GOP
uses it to scare people. Look for a summer and fall's worth of "9/11, terra, terra!" and "It's been five years since 9/11, which means five years of fighting terra'ists. Help me fight them in Iran because they will, I mean, got nukular weapons!"

We can't let the Republicans do to the issue of Iran what they did to Iraq in '02 and use it as a wedge issue.

4. Sunshine... on my shoulders.... makes me happy...
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a day that I could give you
I’d give to you a day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I’d sing a song to make you feel this way

... I love the smell of an aware public in the late afternoon.

7. I notice CNN doesn't bother pointing out the fact that Iran had a
temporary agreement to halt enrichment; that Iran is legally allowed to remove those seals now and is legally allowed to persue nuclear research; they also don't mention that Iran isn't in breach of any treaties, sanctions, resolutions or laws, and that in fact the IAEA is in Iran doing inspections.

And of course no one points out that bush is seeking new nukes...a violation of the NPT. But then so is threatening nuclear first strike. And invading & occupying innocent nations. And warrantless spyng on Americans. And Gitmo. And torture. And extraordinary renditions. And...

10. Thanks. I'm waiting for "Iran gassed the Kurds!"; after all there are
several US gov reports, including from the Pentagon, the US State Dept, & the US Marine Corps, all concluding it was likely Iranian gas that killed the Kurds (in cross-fire during war; we call it "collateral damage" and shrug).

And then there's the fact, contrary to bush & Cabal, that IRAN started the Iran-Iraq war, that Iraq tried several times to end the war and IRAN refused to do so. Then there's the Iranian use of chained children to form human waves against Iraq.

And of course we'll hear all about various beheadings and stonings and the poor unfree women --never mind Saudi being one of the worst HR offenders, they're our pals. And Turkey's rape rooms, ignore them. Don't even mention Uzbekistan (you'll get into "hot water" heh).

And Americans will cry tears for the poor Iranian women and children yearning to be freeee...and sit shocked and hurt when the Iranians DON'T show their gratitude with florals and confectionary and instead say "FO & D yankee scum" and even attack us *gasp* when we invade & occupy Iran (that is, when we try to invade *& occupy; the former we can do, the latter we got no hope in hell).

One day, Americans may have the misfortune to experience what America has been dishing out around the world the past few decades.

I hope not.
