FDA warns parents about contaminated teething rings
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday urged parents to stop giving their babies a liquid-filled plastic teething ring made by The First Years, a unit of RC2 Corp., that may be contaminated with bacteria.

Liquid in the teething rings could sicken infants if they swallow or absorb it through a cut in the mouth, the FDA said. The risk of illness is greatest for babies with immune systems weakened by cancer, malnutrition or other health problems.

Last month, the Massachusetts-based company recalled more than 350,000 teething rings linked to the contaminated liquid.

Dr. Daniel Schultz, director of FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, said regulators were investigating other products made by the company for possible contamination.

2. the BEST teething device is also the simplest
a wet, rolled up washcloth...frozen... Soothes sore gums and no matter how hard they bite, they never hurt it or their mouths..and as it thaws, it mops up drool :)

We used to roll them up and hold them into a hotdog shape with big rubber bands..after they are frozen, they hold the shape.

We also used water-filled doctor's office gloves, draped over something round in the freezer.. The fit a boo-boo perfectly..

My little drama queens would wander in and say.. "Mom..get me a hand...I hurt my knee/elbow/head/foot"...

4. This happened 33 years ago, too.
Same type of teething ring. The standards were made tougher after that. Guess they got loosened up again.

:sarcasm:
