US Congressman sees "border war" with renegade Mexican troops
Amazing, I guessed who the lawmaker was before I even clicked on the article - none other than our good friend, Tom Tancredo - the same man who tried to scare us by saying Al Qaeda had dozens of nukes already in the US.

A Colorado lawmaker said there was a "war" under way along the US-Mexico border and urged President George W. Bush to deploy troops there, alleging drug trafficking by the Mexican military.

Republican Representative Tom Tancredo said the United States was facing "a war" with renegade Mexican troops over the long, porous border.

"We have a war. We are facing a military on the other side of the border," Tancredo told demonstrators protesting illegal immigration outside the US Congress.

"In other places, in other times, that would be an active war," he added, reiterating an accusation that Mexican troops had covered up a drug trafficking operation two weeks ago near the Texas border city of El Paso.

The Mexican government and the US Border Patrol have denied that Mexican troops participated in the January 23 incident.

But Tancredo insisted that Mexican troops were a part of it and repeated his call for Bush to send troops into the border area. "I want my government to protect our borders," he said....

2. Spend any time along the AZ/Mexico border?
There has been a shootin' war there for several years. And some of the shooting is by guys in uniforms.

Drug runners pay better than law enforcement and military. Guess what happens?

Sometimes it isn't just paranoia. Sometimes there really is some bad shit going on.

3. Not arguing that - but I do think Tancredo has a tendency to exaggerate
I had read somewhere that there were drug runners who were using Mexican Army uniforms, but that it wasn't necessarily Mexican troops themselves. I think this also points to the insanity of the "war on drugs". I think right now this is primarily still a law enforcement matter.

I wonder what would be happening if Mexico had a leftist president like Chavez? Think BushCo would be talking about another Mexican War?
