senator Brownback for republican prez. candidate in 08?
I think he could go a long way in splitting the republican party and alienating many moderates.

6. Let's hope for history repeating itself
If Scam Brownbutt runs he should step down because Dole did it. Dole stepped down from his senate seat in 1996 to run for president. Brownback won Dole's senate seat in a special election in 1996.

I do think there are a lot of moderates who, when they learn more about the Scamster, have started changing their minds. A lot of the GOP here in Kansas is composed of farmers, good old-fashioned conservatives. They're more likely to be moderates than they are fundies. They aren't happy with the fundamentalist mindset that has taken over the GOP. I ran into some of these farmers in 2004 at rally for the Democratic challenger, Nancy Boyda, in the 2nd Congressional District. There were several older couples there that looked really out of place. My friend and I went over to talk to them. We found out that until recently almost all of them had been Republicans. They were there supporting the Democratic candidate over the incumbent Jim Ryun because they finally figured out that Ryun was a fundie. My friend and I ended up sitting with one of these couples. We found out they were retired farmers. They said flat-out that they were religious people but they thought the GOP was pushing too much religion into the government. I'll tell you, when a little retired farm couple from north central Kansas are afraid of the direction of the GOP you know the tide is beginning to turn in our favor. I gave them an earful about Sam and they just shook their heads and asked what was going on with the world today.

We're making in-roads here in Kansas and a lot of it is a re-energized party under Dean. Dean has helped to raise money, fund canvassers and now the Democratic Party's phones operate year 'round.

12. You know if he does run and steps down, Sebelius gets to appoint a
replacement?

That would be the only advantage to him running, IMO.

7. Good! Let 'em run him.

Then, the Dems need to put Kathleen Sebelius on their ticket. Wouldn't that be cool. Brownback might not even take his own state.

Kathleen Sebelius (D), Kansas Governor

Plus, if Brownback runs, Sebelius would get to appoint his Senate successor. This is great. A Dem Senator from Kansas!!

8. He doesn't have enough money
The local reporters here in KC were on TV just this morning talking about it. Their consensus was long shot at best.

10. If he's in their primaries that is really good for us.
I'd love to see Allen, Brownback, McCain and Giuliani rip the Republican party to ideological shreds.

It would help even the playing field while the Democrats are doing the same damn thing with the DLC vs the Left.

11. valid question
are there any moderate repukes left? I do not consider what the M$M calls moderate truly moderate. Example, McCain.

I don't think Brownback would spilt the party. The religious wingnuts have taken a huge grip on the party and I believe he just may be the candidate. Not that it matters what with the repuke DREs.

13. He isn't even that popular here in Kansas
He is too extreme even for the conservatives here. So I doubt he could get far if he can't even carry his base.
