WASHINGTON - President Bush, facing opposition from both parties over his plan to send more troops to Iraq, said he has the authority to act no matter what Congress wants.

"I fully understand they could try to stop me from doing it. But I've made my decision. And we're going forward," Bush told CBS' "60 Minutes" in an interview to air Sunday night.

Vice President Dick Cheney asserted that lawmakers' criticism will not influence Bush's plans and he dismissed any effort to "run a war by committee."

"The president is the commander in chief. He's the one who has to make these tough decisions," Cheney said.

The defiant White House stance comes as both the House and Senate, now controlled by Democrats, prepare to vote on resolutions that oppose additional U.S. troops in Iraq. Cheney said those nonbinding votes would not affect Bush's ability to carry out his policies.

6. Fuck impeachment. It's time to invoke the 25th Amendment.

If he can circumvent Congress with this "surge" (like the way he did with the Harriet Myers nom and John Bolton), then he's clearly incapable of performing his duties as president. This would get him out of there immediately.

10. Impeachment and removal from office could take 15 minutes total
Someone in the House introduce the Articles of Impeachment - House votes to impeach, sends it to the Senate. The biggest delay might be in getting SCOTUS Chief over to the Senate floor to preside on the deliberation.

But it only takes the vote in the House and the vote in the Senate.

11. Yeah, but think of the outcome of the last two impeachment trials.
Both were thrown out once they got to the Supreme Court due to lack of evidence.

7. "They have absolutely nothing to offer in its place"
So says Darth Cheney on the Dems.:eyes:
Here's what they didn't offer-escalating this moronic, dumbass war....
"First do no harm" has sadly become a guiding principle regarding what most people want from their leaders by now. Sad state of affairs to be sure.

12. and what this misadministration offers is
nothing but killing more and more troops/iraqis/iranians and anyone else that stands in the way. Have we ever heard what then expected end result is supposed to be? Is it really a "democratic" state in the midst of the Mid East? If that was so damn important, we could talk our Saudi friends into establishing the same. Fukkkkk, that's easy.
